Autopsy 3 things you learnt v essendon

Judgement is opinion, isn't it?
I think fans searching for reasons to tee off on one of our own is ordinary.
I know you don't rate McVeigh - but it's not you, it's the other bloke saying he deliberately avoids youngsters etc which is crap.
In my opinion.

You could get a job with Tony Abbott's spin team...there is a crisis because McV copped a wee bit of criticism.

Commentary
1. Tough to glean that Swans led by 50 with Bruce gushing over young Essendon players all night.
2. Essendon are "so brave". Jesus.
3. Hope all Swans fans appreciate now how good we are.

First two points absolutely spot-on ... unfortunately pretty much par for the course for Swans games v Vic teams for the past 10 years or so. And while he gets plenty of credit on ths board, it's amusing to note when commentators rave over all the young guns at the various clubs, particularly the Suns (and rightly so!), Luke Parker is almost regarded as some kind of journeyman surprise packet. He's 21 ... and a superstar.

i dont think we really need a crumber. theyre rarely consistent enough to be more valuable than being able to rotate mids through the.position.

our game consists of the.mids pushing up and creating pressure, so thats a pretty good substitute for a good crumber.

a crumber would be the cream, but I'll take team balance over that luxury

Agreed. Watchng our past two efforts, I'd have thought the mids rotating through the forwards have looked as good as almost any specialist small forward. And we have McGlynn, who's probably playing the best footy of his career this season (I have been a critic).

and at the end of this year a duel premiership player

Again, his peers voted him 17th in the AFL - far more important than stats.

On form at the time he was

But if every player retired right now he wouldnt be ranked 17th best

Making an example of a 13yro girl, having her publicly hauled away by the police on national tv, it's hardly the way to make a point, any point...so Adam Goodes will have to grin and bear it from opposition supporters.

I'd be furious if an opposition player treated any of our young supporters like that.

I'd be furious if I was responsible for such an ignorant 13-year-old.

1. When you play the drug cheats it makes this thread into a weird otherwordly experience of random topics

2. McVeigh is either elite or not.

3. Hurley's hair is a disgrace, he and Shoenmakers should be mocked mercilessly.

"AFL.com.au presented the AFL players with a simple challenge: rank the best in the game" - so, sounds like they would have. What are you judging that they wouldn't on?

im saying last year mcveigh was 17th ahead of say judd, but over their careers no way is judd not one of the top players running around, he just has no current form.

ranking mcveigh 17th going into the season does not mean he is an elite player to me *just my view

I don't care how McVeigh goes about captaining as long as he gets the result and leads the team. His efforts to lift the team (replay those long goals) when our opposition try to crawl back into the game has been superb. He runs, he chases, he leads by example. He's critical of anyone who doesn't play the team game the way he expects them to play it. As captain he's the man on the ground and entitled to call it as he sees it. The best bosses I've ever had have been the ones who give it straight up. Criticism is the most honest form of feedback and the most useful. Professionals know that.

It's hard to kick straight when you keep moving those goalposts ;)

All I was responding to was that you said he wasn't elite because elite was top 20. I showed he probably was top 20. Now it turns out you were talking over whole careers. So, you would currently describe Chris Judd, Adam Goodes & Ryan O'Keefe as elite? Fair enough. On that criteria, I agree.

Quite right 100 , if he's elite, what about all the players that are better than him.
Ask yourself, would you prefer McVeigh in the team in place of Kennedy or Hanners and do you think he is a better player than them
I asked myself and we had quite a discussion.

I'd rate Kennedy ahead of McVeigh but Hanners just behind. I'd rate Macca as the better captain. Kennedy is elite and Hanners is pretty close.

We should be thankful we have the talent to be drawing these comparisons. Sooner or later the rest of the AFL world is going to realise the class we have in our midfield. As an example, Bird would be raved about if he played for any other team while at the Swans he toils in the shadows of giants.

look at your comments - just a mindless sledge with no basis:
"McVeigh is only there on rep. Has had a pretty ordinary year and keeps burning the young kids when they are in good position to get the ball. Lost count the number of times 'Richie' Cunningham has been in the clear breaking forward and McVeigh has ignored him and turned the ball over. He does the same thing to Lloyd.
Kennedy, Parker & Hanners are tied for #1. KJ is finding form, like the work of Lloyd, reckon he could easily do McVeigh's job"

you could be Tony Abbott.

Who would want to be that low life rat

Now we're getting somewhere Bunghole, what about KJ.
All four that you mentioned were in the top 20 according to the other players so then it comes down to what you consider elite. I generally agree with top 20 as sr100 said so that makes them all "elite". Change elite to top 10 then Kennedy would be the only one IMO.
