My take is he wanted 2.
Yeh a bit of a slap in the face, I don't get it?

Injuries? Achilles went on him one year and then a 2 week knee the next year lasted until the end of the season. Might also explain why the rumoured interest from the West dried up.

Granted, Comben has similar concerns but it's not too surprising they would give a KPF more leeway to come good.

No issue on Comben.

It's Mahoney I'm far more surprised about.

There's that great old line that goes something like "if you are a key position player you've got 5 years to show me you can't play and if a midfielder you've got 5 games to show me you can"

Mahoney played senior footy in his first year, when he was the youngest player in the competition (less than 6 months older than Phillips), and showed quite a bit. He has some elite traits and could develop into a high quality inside mid.

I like Mahoney too and he certainly did show a bit. His size and lack of pace a concern.

I'm more than happy to keep him but I would prefer Hayden on the list.

Hayden makes sense. They must have more knowledge/ faith in Comben’s body than his injury history might otherwise suggest, but three years for Mahoney is surprising. This smells Joycey.

Big difference in level.

We need Comben to come good (has plenty of time) or we can bring in another KPF as a free agent. I don't think Xerri is the answer.

Agree.

He is a ruckman who can push forward at times in my opinion. I’m happy for him to have a taste here and there, but I would prefer he play VFL and continue to develop his craft. Getting games into players isn’t always beneficial if they’re not playing in their preferred position.

He has good agility and a decent tank. If they can work on his explosive speed a bit then he probably has enough of everything if his footy smarts are good enough. He is taller than Boomer and probably quicker than Sam Mitchell.

Hayden is on the list. He is also about 2.5 years older than Jack and hasn't really shown a heap more. Injuries have played a part but Jack has already played more senior games.

I'm really happy to have both on the list and trust that if Rawlings, Clayton, Luff, and Noble agreed that Jack was worthy of a 2 year extension then they see plenty of upside.

Same i think there is plenty to like about Jack.Great result in my opinion will be really good for us in the future.

Agree to disagree then.

I'd have given Hayden at least the same period.

I'm also happy to trust the new regime but that's no guarantee of success just yet.

Do we know for sure that the one year given to Kyron was purely the club? There may be a go-home factor at play.

As I said I am very happy to have both of them on the list but also think that there is a huge amount of development that happens between the ages of 18 and 21 so it is not an apples with apples comparison. Mahony with three full pre-seasons under his belt could be a very different proposition to what he was this year. Will probably add another 7 or 8kg for starters.

Chop - the whole go-home factor with Hayden has been pretty publicised on this board. The club obviously rates him, as he was played whenever he was fit this year and has been given a new contract.

The fact that they rate him, yet only gave him 1 year + the whispers about him missingg Perth, probably allow for some pretty safe assumptions around why they only landed on a 1 year deal.

Also remember that Will Walker, who granted has had more injury concerns, was only given a rookie spot.

Let’s hope that Hayden has a really good year on and off field in 2021 and signs a longer deal.

Wouldn't the go home factor mean extra effort to keep not the other way around? (if we indeed rate him highly)

I suspect he's made the call in hindsight.

Agree hope he has a great year. I'm a big fan.

Will Walker is pretty irrelevant to the discussion imo.
