I agree Jack will be OK, question is if just OK is good enough?
30-40 goals with Lynch, Dusty, Cumberland and Shai down there also. He's not and doesn't have to be the main man anymore so just playing his role will be enough.

Dees won a flag with Tom McDonald and Ben Brown as their KPFs a couple of years ago.

if we play soldo we are asking for trouble, has the turning angle of a mack truck. you have lumbering giants like nank and soldo. doesnt work. throw in the kid.

Agree,

Soldo only plays if Nank is injured. Can't play them both. Ryan needs to be played. Firstly, as a back-up ruck for Nank and secondly a perfect chop out for Jack who we can't rely on for 4 quarters. It leaves Lynch with too much to do.

There is a couple of questions i can ask you in response to your post

With Harry & Curnow we currently have Balta/Tarrant & Grimes as the players to play on them
there is a good chance Tarrant does not get up so lets just assume Balta to Harry & Grimes to go with Curnow

Who takes DeKoning who will most likely spend 60-70% time foward ?
Which player has the height and athleticism to go with him in the Ruck & Defence ?
Is it Soldo ?

And the backup of Miller also provides an option if 1 of their fowards goes crazy and gets a hold of our defenders

I'm not saying Miller shouldn't play, I just don't see us using him as a defender anymore. It also hasn't worked for Carlton in the past playing 3 tall forwards like that and they also use Silvagni. The third tall simply doesn't have the ball kicked to them that often and it makes them very slow. I would role the dice with Broad playing as the third tall in that scenario. He might get a couple kicked on him, but we would rebound very strongly.

Harsh on Miller. He played a good game in his first game and looked at home in the backline, then basically played as a forward because Soldo and Nank did not work so he was asked to take his place with no VFL trialling. He did very well considering.

Can't right him off as a back due to being asked to play forward, and can't right him off as a forward because although Ryan is more of an aerial threat, Miller is okay in the air but you lose nothing once the ball hits the deck or as a defensive forward. Plus he is a beautiful kick. He deserves first dibs, but as I mentioned earlier, why wouldn't you use Ryan as the sub because if Carlton get off the leash it will the tall's most likely doing the damage.

Carlton Have Harry / Charlie and Silvagini/TDK in the same team and virtually play 3 talls
Silvagni is about the same size as Jack and even slower

With the extra umpire i think most teams will play with 3 talls in the team (not saying all will be on the ground all the time but 50% of the time will require 3 tall defenders)

We would effectively be playing Miller on TDK but if Harry/Curnow get going and take a hold of our defender it allows us to switch Miller with Balta or Tarrant to cover whilst allowing us the chop out for Nank , Soldo offers no defensive ability and virtually zero foward craft

The extra interchange spot is the perfect opportunity to have a player like Miller in the team

Grundy kicking 3 means he Is now leading cotchin as favourite for the Coleman.

In all honesty Grundy went alright there. Equal Best ruckman over the last few years is now KPF..
Interesting from Melbourne to pick up Grundy.
I actually think he ll be an asset to melb , far superior player to Jackson , he has a history of impacting games , combined with Gawn could be quite devastating, not sure how anyone could conclude differently

I conclude differently. Jackson will be a much better forward option than Grundy or Gawn who are both 1st rucks. 2 doesn't go into 1. Yes it worked on the weekend against Tylar Young in a practice match but I reckon in the real stuff the resting ruck won't have the impact they're hoping for.

Will be interesting to see it play out anyway.

I don’t see Jackson ever impacting games to the level Grundy has for many years regardless where he plays on the ground

We probably should give Jack and Cotch a few games before we write them off…Robbie Tarrant is turning 34 but we’re missing him all of a sudden…?
Our veteran legends can play a role on the field (and in the four walls) not just in possessions and goals…

And when we play Melbourne...

I dont think they will drop JR either, but JR had 1 mark for the match on Saturday, none in F50, and Ryan had 5 marks in a qtr and 4 I50. Pretty stark
One has nothing to prove in a praccy match.
The other is Young and keen.

Freo brought Jackson at a Ferrari price but will only get a Ford type of performance.

How stoopid are the Pies.
Never give your finals rival a leg up with a quality player which in turn weakens your own.

Not like they had a choice
They needed him off the books and it if it wasn’t to a club Grundy was happy with he would of just stayed and that was untenable for them

Very rare a player stays after being told he's not wanted.

You think he would have agreed to a trade if it was to an interstate side?

Pies had to get rid of him and had very limited options as to who could take him on for a number of factors

Grundys first was on Balta.

Yeah. Treloar and grundy collingwood list mismanagement and they still end up in finals last year.
Playing a good brand of football with a pinch hitter ruckman. Cameron

Well considering he's a SA boy.Moving anywhere interstate wouldn't be an issue.
