Given we bid on a KPP and then changing to a ruck suggests he was best available according to our guys. We didnt just grab this ruck for the sake of getting one given if Essendon didn't match we wouldn't have got a ruck.

Don't let Delilah cut his hair incase he loses his Ruckman super powers. His Nickname should be Delilah.

Maybe....but my tip will be on Sammy.....😉

Welcome Samson.

The rumours were right. But I didn't expect you at 40.

I wonder if they think we'll lose one of our other rucks over the next few years. Stockpiling them, which is a bit strange. Or they see CCJ as a KPF and not really a ruck. So we'd have 3 on the list

They mentioned his endurance in the blurb.
Being 20 and that young and tall, opening the bowling for 1st grade Toowoomba, I’m taking a guess here but could be his folks held him back to finish school and get his frame a bit more used to running.
I like that.

Welcome, Big Fella!

I don't really follow the draft and have no idea how Ryan compares to other players left on the board.

But I really like that his been playing senior footy. That means his been punched in the knackers by a bitter 35-year old reserves player filling in and feeling inadequate because he can't keep up anymore. You learn a LOT playing above your age. Ryan probably won't experience anything more intimidating at AFL than his already seen.

Not ranked in Fox Footy’s Top 100 ... long term ruck prospect

Here for the melts
king/Brown & Johnson in charge of rankings.
Welcome to Tigerland Max Gawn.

Jack Carroll was still there, I fear we will be reminded by the Blues of this for a long time to come...agree with what was said above, we must think one of this plethora of developing ruckmen is going to replace JR up forward. I guess it is CCJ.

Welcome Samson and good luck.

You might well be right and I would have liked to have picked Carrol because he seems to be one of the 'steals' of the draft. However, you don't slide to Pick 41 in a draft for no reason. Especially in a draft so compromised and with so little exposed form for so many players (and remember the kid is from WA, he actually got to show his wares unlike the Victorian kids).

If he is the first round quality that so many thought, and it's such a surprise that he'd still be around at our pick, why didn't we leap on him like we did for Jack Higgins? Yeah I know we need a ruck, but I can point out a number of examples where we threw needs out the window because we really rated a kid but found to our surprise and delight that he was still available at our pick. So yeah, I get picking Ryan, but draft watchers make us feel better, what was wrong with Carrol to slide that far in a compromised covid-19 draft?

Getting a ruckman does not bother as much as how much our midfield is neglected by our recruiters.

I feel very sorry for Dusty that has to carry such a load as the bigger midfielder.

Do some in the club want to crucify Dusty?

I am feeling back pain from the load Dusty is carrying at the moment!!

Yeah, our recruiting has been woeful, for the last 8 years to be honest. It’s like they haven’t been drafting for sustained success.

I’d kill for us to have a list in premiership contention...

Think we have a new game plan in the works

HF : Soldo(204cm) - Colina (213cm)- Nankervis (200cm)
FF : Chol (200cm)- Lynch (200cm)- Coleman-Jones (200cm)

We just need a Ruckman to play in the Ruck now
R:Baker Cotchin Prestia.

Only reason I could think is they consider ccj a flight risk when contract expires even still I consider our stocks ok , heck balta looks good as pt ruck
Or as already been mentioned. We see CCJ as the Jack replacement.
Think thats the most plausible explanation.

Hmm, only reason I can see that we took this guy at 40 is that perhaps we knew someone else was gonna grab him.

Gotta be honest, his highlights package on the RFC website does not fill me with much confidence. Looks a little clumsy and goes to ground very, very easy. Will need to work on his size and core strength.

Can take a mark due to his height but he is playing against pretty average players.

Will need a lot of work I think, certainly couldn't walk into the side early next season if he was needed.

Still glad we got him, but I reckon we could have taken the mature age ruck from the WAFL (I think WAFL, whoever the guy is that used to be on the Pies list) late and used 40 on Carroll or Callow.

Ah well, we can't complain, we got MRJ and we're back to back premiers, pretty amazing times :)
Don't understand your reasoning here.
On one hand your saying Sampson is up against some average players(Like to know how you know this)
Yet you'd consider someone like Gaunt(I think your thinking of)who also plays in a 2nd tier comp and has been delisted and never to return to afl.

Don't be surprised if the drafting of Son of Samson is part of a longer play next year where our 2 first rounders and/or CCJ are part of a big swoop on a couple of big names from other clubs......

That passed my mind.
One of the 2 Greens from GWS come to mind.

Imagine our fwd line:
MRJ/????/Sheds
Dusty/Lynch/Toby G.
