Watching at the game, yes he played time on ball which was finally playing him in the right position, but he also spent a lot of time again today playing as a defensive half forward with them playing a loose man.

He looks a lot fitter than most of our players although that's not hard. He provides repeat efforts.

There really shouldn't be a set pecking order of our midfielders because our midfield has performed woefully for the last month and has been ordinary all year. We haven't won a game for 3 months . Hopefully Lazzaro gets a run at it because it's not as though any of the others have been winning us games.

Got any other comedy gold?
Far from our worst out there. 15 disposals (more than Tucker, PC, Stevo and Ford) and 10 tackles.
One of few players to actually execute a handball directly to teammates and was pretty clean when he got it.
Now is he going to make it at AFL level? Unlikely but deserves at least another game compared to some others.

I wouldnt rule him out making AFL level but will need to do it as a half forward/back. He has the drive and determination some players take more time. He has a lot of time to prove himself this and next season.

sorry, thought your other remark was referring to CCJ, yeah Laz went ok.

There's no reason why Charlie can't become a solid Tom Atkins type player. No star, but he doesn't have to be.

He did enough this week to play next week. Hopefully it keeps on rolling.

I was pleasantly surprised by how clean he was. Double grabbed his first touch but none after that I don’t think. 9 tackles. He has the drive and is clearly fitter than most.

I am on record as seriously not rating him but he might find a role via pure hard work and if so kudos. Plays next week for sure.

If Wardlaw, Phillips and Powell come back does he even play in the middle?
Its middle or bust.
his best bet is that pressure small forward role but would need to find a way to be dangerous around goals too, being able to pressure isn't enough

something he should be working on in the off season

If he doesn't work out, keep him on as a physical consultant and get him to show everyone how to ****ing run. Easily top 5 at the club fitness wise

I dont think hes quick enough to be a small pressure forward bro.
His best footy has been as an inside mid and hes the number 8 banana on the list.
With Jy out, Cunners out, Shiels injured, Powell/Wardlaw/Phillips not guaranteed to return - maybe we try him there against the Hawks.

Honestly, playing Hawthorn this week Id love for Lazzaro and Powell to be given time in the middle. Just make the call. Play them there and see what happens.
It could be the making of them and us or not. But we've lost 14 in a row. We have nothing to lose and so much to gain. We know what the others can do. Let these 2 blokes do their thing.

his speed is his best attribute i think hes quick enough

its about whether he can do anything else in that small forward role

Maybe in 2021 he was quick. I think hes stronger than back then. I mean Touhy is 34 in December and burnt him off no issues yesterday.
Lazzaro may look quick but isnt. Hes an inside mid. Thats where he plays in the VFL and thats his strongest position.

With the midfield depth we have, he's up against it to maintain a spot there, no doubt. As others have said, I doubt he can keep a spot in any other position.

Having said all that, given the comments someone (William Caresser?) has made about the culture of the place, and some 'mid to older players' not being as committed as they might be, Charlie's work ethic, and leadership capacity, is something we can do with right now.

In short, honour the last year of his contract, trust he'll do his very best to make the most of his opportunities, and let's see what happens.

His foot disposal stinks, half back will result in turnovers, we can’t keep doing that. Sign of ****ing madness

Yep, some mid to older and one second year player. Resentment from a group of other players who are professional that these other guys keep getting picked despite sub-standard fitness and 'loose' behaviour.

As for our midfield, we haven't won a game for 3 months so there should be far less preconception about a midfield pecking order. Frankly none of them have earnt that right. They've been hammered the last month and have been underwhelming all year. So try others and play guys in there on merit, not on reputation and potential.

Atkins has been getting a fair bit of mid time this year. Not sure Charlie will get that oppo.

I said it just last the other day, it's not that we don't rate him, he's behind so many.

And FYI I think he's ahead of Phillip and Powells.

I'm obviously not sure on the specific players you're referencing but man I reckon I could guess a fair few of them. I'd love nothing more than to play a 23 man team in the seniors that doesn't contain any of the frauds but is that even possible logistically? Would it involve playing an underdone Josh Goater at full back? This ****ing mess just has layers upon layers, man.

Not having a crack at you Kimbo, but our “midfield depth” is an absolute fallacy IMO. Barely any of them run both ways, except Wardlaw, and he‘s a pup. We need 2 way runners, desperately.

Yep, once we trade Phillips, Powell and Simpkin. W will need Charlie. He can run the others cant.
