If there's such thing as reward for effort at this footy club then Laz plays for the rest of the season. He actually has the dedication and a work ethic that would be top 5 in the club. Obviously he's limited but when a club is up shit creek I'd prefer to play 22 plodders who bust a gut rather than 22 talents that phone it in.

First priority of the footy club has to be breaking the loser culture that's enveloped the place since 2020.

FMD. Lazzaro had 9 CBAs. 77% time on ground. 15 possessions and our midfield was smashed all day. Yeh he tackled and tried hard, but NO way should he be getting midfield minutes over LDU, Wardlaw, Phillips, or Powell.

It's like we're losing it collective minds. I hope he makes it, but he just as likely could be our Charlie Constable, or like so many other players in the league.

He played as a defensive half forward for at least half of the game. Greenwood attended 26 and LDU 25 centre bounces. Lazzaro 9. That's about reflecttive - he played about 25% on ball.

But either way, our midfield this season has performed very poorly. We haven't won a game for 3 months and our inside mids are one of the big reasons.

ahem...cough...cough...ah Wardlaw, Phillips and Powell didn't play - hence Charlie got some CBA's......

You've just spectacularly missed the point of the discussion topic that has dominated this forum since last game

Not having a crack at you Kimbo, but our “midfield depth” is an absolute fallacy IMO. Barely any of them run both ways, except Wardlaw, and he‘s a pup. We need 2 way runners, desperately.
Can’t or don’t?

I'm responding to the post above that suggests he play for the rest of the season as reward for effort.

To expand, his best game to date was in the midfield, and it wasn't that good. He's shown next to nothing in his opportunities in other games that weren't as an inside midfield, so hard to reconcile the thought of him playing every game when those players I mentioned are fit.

All this talk about too many mids isn't correct in my view. The modern mid needs to be multi-positional, unless they're a best in class inside mid like Tom Mitchell. Lazzaro has a lot of traits that suggest he can be versatile on the flanks or in pockets, although to date he hasn't shown it.

I actually don't think that's on the recruiters either, as he was recruited in the COVID year. He'd shown promise in the few games he'd played and strong development vs. the year before, although they wouldn't have got to see him in different positions. It's just the way it is, although let's not get carried away with what he's shown at AFL level.

Most likely. I got a bit emotional about a post saying he should play every game as reward for effort. 🫶

The last couple of days have been hard on all of us.

Unfortunately I agree, but at the very least he’d make a great depth option, so would like to see him retained on the list - which is a whole lot better than I was thinking at the beginning of the year!

I’m also going to point out this guy gets pushed off the ball way too freaking easily.
And from what I’ve seen him from him in person, he isn’t small

It's been ****ing shithouse, you're right there. I guess the emerging consensus on here, bearing in mind this team's pathetic displays of late, is that blokes who work their backsides off at training and on gameday deserve to be playing over those who don't. Of course if the club adopts that mentality, that might mean Turner comes back in, but we need to do something against this parasitic spread of apathy and shithouse standards. We're hardly contending, so an experiment like that to determine whether there's an uplift in performance/whether some of the best 22 players who are resting on their laurels pull their ****ing fingers out when it's made clear to them that their spot in the team isn't sacred, can't hurt

The second year* player seems to be improving and has a high ceiling tbf.

*If it's the obvious one.
He's nowhere near as fit as he should be, even as a second year player. Didn't work hard enough in preseason, can't give real 2nd and 3rd efforts, can"t run the other way and so can't play his role. Looks good when he gets it but like a third of our side, is next to useless /witch's hat when doesn't have it.

well... the entire team had 4 centre clearances for the game, and Charlie provided 1, so while we're on percentages, we could say he collected 25% of our centre clearances

EDIT - that's not counting 2 tackles inside 50 from a team stat of 12, or 16.66%

Plenty of other problems on the day, but imo Charlie wasn't one of them

I said it just last the other day, it's not that we don't rate him, he's behind so many.
How can he be behind anyone (excluding Will P and George W), when we got destroyed in the midfield last weekend?

You reckon the witches hats that played last Sunday have a right to be there before Lazz?

Prolly not the worst sub selection. Pretty flexible player all be it limited by what he has shown to date. Looks like a poor mans mason wood.

I haven't seen a lot to suggest Laz will make it...apart from his last game and he got dropped. Must have not been following instructions I guess. I hope he gets some time today.
Reckon it was too many tackles that brought him undone. Coaches were doubtlessly thinking that that sort of endeavour and application has no place in this team

4 handballs and a free kick against in a quarter and a half.
The man just turns into a lemon at AFL level after dominating at VFL.
Never have I seen a footballer whose ceiling is so limited between both grades.

Back to the VFL he goes but god what is there to look forward to in 2024.

Delisting?

Delisting?
Saved by a contract he signed last year. Rawlings masterstroke.
He’s been great for the VFL side but bloody hell I’d rookie him and wish him luck if he got a gig elsewhere.

He’s an inside midfielder who’s 8th in line at North for a game. Says it all really.
