Yeah right.

Look how the ball comes into the opposition forward line and you wonder why he has trouble.

The bloke who stands in the last line of defence cops the most ******** for everyone elses poor work. The dogs and the saints for that matter where given to much time to steady, driving the ball into the forward line and u expect him to stop everything that comes in.

His only technical failing as far as I am concern is he needs to learn to punch and defend with both arms not just favouring his RHS. If a bloke is on the left of you, why try punch with your right arm, should be using the left.

Some of you expect 1 bloke to apply pressure in defence by himself ????

Watt can provide great run from defense and certainly doesn’t have the worst skills in teams. ‘Perhaps’ FB isn’t his best spot, I agree with others that he is well worth persevering with, maybe the third tall rebounding role could be it. In one part of play he should great courage throwing himself at the contest, just the type of thing we often see from Archer or Colbert. Just the type of thing I like to see from someone playing the third tall role.

Shannon Watt is far from the start of the line in my opinion. Brent Harvey was more dangerous against us than for us last night. Shannon Grant has been conistently bad also for quite a while. Our kids should not be the only bright lights. Middle aged players let us down last night. Poor old Rawlings couldn't buy a clean possession last night...

Poor Babies. Get used to it folkes, Shannon Watt will be our FB for the next 10 years...unless we can find someone better, and I don't think Laidley will be on the lookout for one.
I for one will be quite happy if he stays our fullback. I think he has shown enough this season to suggest he will make a very good FB, and as long as he improves each season, I will continue to stick up for him.

Long Live Shannon Watt.

And may all the ********ers who continually tear him down, die a slow and painful death. You are not true Shinboners and don't believe in the spirit and unity that has kept this club alive for 135 years.

Why is he still on our list is what I want to know? Not many players get to stay at a club for 7 years and still have people thinking that hey he might come good. Should have delisted him 2 years ago and hopefully when his contact runs out that will be it.
Watt just isn't a footballer. He is an example of going after an athlete and hopeing he will be able to play footy.

And don't count the fact that Dean's stupid comments last week may be rattling inside his head. If only Dean had played with Shannon he might be a little more supportive.

I love how you seem to know what is going on inside the heads of our players.

BTW, did or did not Laids play with Mick Martyn?

Did he play with Wells, Motlop, Brown?

Shannon Watt may not be M.Martyn but he does have a go.
Did anyone happen to see what happened to him last night when he attempted to mark and landed ackwardly on his neck. It was actually quite sickening from where I sat and I was truly grateful that he actually got up and walked. Courage isn't always measured by beating an opponent one on one.
We have truly been spoilt at the Roos by having some of the best full backs to ever play the game and Shannon isn't obviously in their league as yet, but as others have said there have been a lot worse in the side this year hold their spots. Don't be surprised if he figures in the top 10 in the B&F and the coach isn't the only one who gives the votes.

Speaking for us ********ers, many of us are probably truer Shinboners than you are Devo. That's why we hate to see players like Watt constantly let the team down. Sticking with a player is fine, but there comes a time to realise that some players are just not good enough. The club and coach can only persevere for so long and Watt's time at full-back is well and truly up. By all means try him in another position, where I believe he would be better off. But don't question the loyalty of supporters who don't agree with you.

Shannon Watt is not a confident footballer. That much is pretty obvious. I also know for a fact that he is not at all a confident person.

What Laidley said cut him up, and I reckon Dean would take it back if given the chance.

Don't get me wrong Kangaroo7, but p**sy comments like 'hopeless' are very shallow hide behind a curtain cheap shots. You can't possibily say Corey McK has had a better season than Watt.
Perhaps FB isn't for Shannon Watt to play but for crying out loud, our midfield defensive pressure has alot to be accounted for before you load the double barrell at Shannon Watt's head.

I admit Watt was quite dissappointing last night and although we had the likes of Arch and Colbert off, but consider North got back early in the third qtr to be a within a kick but I say, it's more about our other 'game winners' who let us DOWN than the guy who was getting peppered when nobody wanted to help fight hard enough.

I don't say that Watt is the only disappointing player in the side, Woodson, but he has been disappointing on the whole over the past couple of years and still managed to keep his place.
As for North's comeback last night if we had had a half decent FB Croft would never have got those very easy marks and goals in the third quarter to blow the game apart. Yes many others were to blame as well, but to have such a disappointing player at an important positon who is constantly beaten is not going to help the club.

I can't think of anyone actually. Maybe Petrie and Sinclair perhaps but i can't think of anyone else who constantly gets beaton as much as Watt does yet holds their spot. Harvey would be another one I suppose. Oh i forgot about Porter but he did have a good patch in the mid season.

I thought Laidley's criticism in the media last week was a little harsh, however, after tonight's 'display', it was well justified.

He got absolutely smashed by a cretin who was included in the side not on strength of performance, but on emotion as he wanted to retire in front of his fans.

Continually outpointed, outpositioned and out-wrestled.........he's got to stop lifting the drinking straws in the gym. 7 seasons of this for a paltry return, i think Laidley's patience may be well on the wane and he may be well on the way out.

Cretin???

Crofty would've been in the side on performance anyway had it not been for our 'youth policy'. He has been a great servant to the club and rightly deserved a send - off.

Anyway, just came here to say good luck to North for next year as several of your posters were good enough to come top our board to congratulate us on our win.

:)

Maybe not. He singled out Jess Sinclair this week. Don't see the need for him to do this in the media. By all means have a crack at an individual in the room, but I guess that Dean isn't one for hiding his disappointment.

I think his record this year has actually been pretty good. With a good batch of forwards in the comp, he hasn't had too many bags over 5 goals kicked on him. I think that would rate as an OK year.

Yeah thats right! Shannons worst games are when he has the least amount of support in defence.

So keep hacking him up and expect him to be the 1 man wall in defence.

Isnt it funny how we kept teams down to 10 goals or less when Watt, Archer and Colbert where all playing.

Wakey Wakey.

Are we finding out now, what we should have know 3 or 4 years ago.

Pagan's preference of playing young players in short stints gave them little time to develop and show their ability. We are now 2 years into seeing what Shannon Watt can do. Why? Pagan refused to give him an extended go. Didn't test him to see his worth when our A graders moved on. Never showed the faith. 5 wasted years on the list with very few games to show for it.

Laidley has shown that faith and found out if he is the player to build a defence around. Most of us would say he isn't, but at least we found out sooner rather than later.

Pagan coached us to two premierships. Even if your Watt theory was right (which it isn't), i would be willing to let it slide.

In reference to the Pagan years.. is it conclusive how good he is at 20 or 21? Could we afford to give him extended game time and concede a heap of goals when we were still a realistic shot at finals every year with Martyn, Archer and McCartney as the key defenders?

Perhaps the fault here is that we took the approach of drafting the "best available talent" as if there was no deficiency, without a designated plan to replace Mad Mick at FB. In 1996 or 1997 this might have been OK, but not in the years since.

How many key defenders have we recruited since 1996 (based on Mick's age being 28, when you start looking for replacements)?
