I just think he should have come in earlier while he was coming off 5x goal performances

In fairness one was against us and the other was against a bad VFL side.

Anyone want to recall boomers stats on his first and only game in 1996?
I’d give him at least one more game, surely a weakened hawthorn defence would be better for him then today

Boomer only played a half and Pagan did things differently because we had a side that was settled and we were afforded time to allow players to actually develop in the lower level.

Bringing Sellers in for a single game would be pointless.

Give him another run this week.

Yes I agree with all of that, just saying it’s happened before on debut

I think we saw enough today to suggest he is short of the level, but he should get another run under the lid against Hawthorn.

If he stinks it up again that’s probably all she wrote for a while.

It’s not like we have a heap of options until Dawson(s) or Logue come back and we can possibly push Chom forward.

Our list balance/management is truly something to have to be seen to be believed.

Yes and Larkey was a youngster Sellars is a grown man . We played Kevin Hughes once and only once. I hope this is the same process.
I thought Sellars was a s**t truck and I'm feeling quite comfortable with my conclusion
.
Kevin Hughes was an overweight balding VFA player. Don’t even know why we picked him up

I was sitting behind the goals at the end we were kicking to in the first quarter and watching Sellers with interest. And I saw nothing: not once in the whole quarter was the ball delivered into our forward line in a way that gave him a chance to win a possession

This is the point. He was rarely used as a target. I think Drury tried to hit him up once. I mean, even one of his team mates at one point decided that Stephens would be a better option to kick to... lol. That predictably didn't work out well.

The guy needs to be given a decent chance. 3 or 4 games and his team mates need to be told to use him as an option. Help give him some confidence. From what I could see, he was certainly trying out there but just wasn't given opportunities.

Talk about going for low hanging fruit, 1st game, and posted in the F50 where delivery was constant, and superb all day, far bigger problems deserving of attention before him.
You know how Big Footy works when someone wants to call a player a sh*tmen they don't let logic get in the way, they are labelled a sh*tmen and will be forever referred to as a sh*tmen. True story that. Oh well.

Corey McKernan in ‘93 and Byron Pickett in ‘97 both had shockers. Doubt they got a touch and were dropped but both had breakout years in the next season.
Scott Welsh debut game year 1 = 1 free against.

Scott Welsh game 2 year 2 = 1 free against.

Scott Welsh year 3 : jet

And that was in a premiership team.

Similar output as Souva in his first game.....although in a much worse team against a better opposition.....the future is bright!

Is Amanda Sellers eligible to join our board (the club not Bigfooty) under the son-mother rule?
We had a brewing executive back in the day - Trevor O'Hoy. A man so dedicated to the amber fluid that his current positions include directorships at Stone and Wood Brewing and, um, The Maggie Beer Company.

I was at the cheer squad end and couldn't agree more. But I'll also add he's not the type to get on his bike and try and make a lead. Seemed very content to hold back and signal us to kick it onto his head, which was easily spoiled against a quality Geelong defence.

I imagine it was pretty eye opening. Definitely want him to get him more chances, but if that's his normal game it's not going to work at AFL level.

I'd be happy to have her on the board but she's a bit dottery.

Wow, you are a ruthless b******. One game and that's it as far as you are concerned. If our club treated every debutant with that sort of approach, we would be having about 26 picks in the draft every year.

As you have noted, Larkey was much younger, but I suspect he'd have been out the door straightaway too on your approach to matters.

Thankfully at all football clubs, much smarter people than you and me decide on careers.

We can afford to give him 3 or 4 games to give him a chance to prove one way or another. We are going to be a bottom four team at best, so giving him a chance over an extended period, is no big deal.

Had a mare in admittedly tough conditions. Larkey was largely unsighted and snuck through 2 very tough shots because he is an out and out gun. Got stiffed a shot on goal with his one chance because the umps decided that for once they conveniently didn't want to be pedantic about rules they pay every single week.

I'd be keeping him in and a chance to get his hands on the pill this week, we still need another tall even if makeshift and hopefully Zurhaar back in helps.
