The bloke is 22 and has shown the talent, but he's clearly in a form slump and needs a spell. Obviously won't be anywhere near the Champions Trophy squad, just hope he can go back to state cricket and start making bulk runs again.

potentially, but it’s not like he didn’t push for it internally - let’s be real.

Ever thought that the reason he put his hand up to open was BECAUSE there were no in form openers to play?

I doubt there's a #4 in history who'd open if they didn't have to.

The fact that there wasn't anyone good enough, combined by CA not being confident in any of the other options, is very far from Steve Smith's fault.
