Reckon Grima will definetely take a big step next year.. and Firrito will have a better year than this year- which started off in great fashion, but went in a downward spiral because of that injury of his..

Grima, Wells, Harris, Watson & Firrito.. need another young speedster..

Go Roos

By the way, do ya think last night Harro was suffering from a long season, that being the reason for him spending time inside F50.
I'd think so, he has carried an awful load in the second half of the year especially. It was also no coincidence that we were getting spanked in the clearances, as he was up forward and not playing on the ball. We may already be developing an unhealthy reliance on him - if he is down, we get killed at the clearances.

Grima is Harro without the flair and freaky stuff. Better kick though.

He is not quick across the turf, but he is footy quick. The more I watch footy and the more I watch the best players, I realise foot speed is overrated.

It will not be our starting midfield in round 1, but IMO, it might well be by round 15 or so. It has genuine hardness, two big bodies (Grima is far more "footy ready" than Harro was in year two) and the little fella, who goes ok.

Simmo will be most dangerous as a pinch hitter, floating where he like. Marking target when moving it from defence, floater across half back etc etc.

Watching players running with the ball and taking a few bounces is pretty exciting, but doing so actually slows down the movement of the ball (to state the obvious, a ball moves faster when kicked than when carried) and it screws up the forwards as they can't time their leads properly.

Footspeed is only important when trying to find enough space so you can deliver the ball properly. Harris is probably our best at doing that. He runs to find space and he delivers the ball at the first opportunity.

The other thing is that running hard is more important than pure speed. I don't think the Lions, Melbourne, or Geelong are that blessed with pace, but their players run hard and in straight lines. They also have the knowledge of where to run.

According to todays Herald Sun, Harro has signed for three more years. I believe the article said that only Jess Sinclair and Corey Jones were still out of contract. I'd surprised if there was only two out of contract though.

They also did our year for the ratings and came up with 55% from memory. Said that Ash Watson could be traded for Henneman from Essendon as they need pace and we need height in the back half.

Great news about Harro. Next year will therefore be the first year he's paid what he's worth! He would've been playing on minimal $$$$ up to now.

Onya Harro................future B&F of the NMFC.

Trading Watson for Henneman would be enough grounds for Laidely to be sacked on spot. Ash Watson has lots of potential. Henneman is just ********e.

Ash has lots of potential! Sounds great. All he needs to do now is show it.

If Ash was given a fair chance, then he would be a great player. His only downfall is his body size, and lack of it. Bulk up Ash and he would be good

Awesome to read that harris signed on for 3 years, as his player sponser i was so wrapped.

If Ash isnt in Dean's plans then there is no point of keeping him so why not trade him. Everyone talks about his potential, but im yet to see it. His been on the list for 3 years now and only played a handful of games, no point in keeping the guy if he isnt going to be played its as simple as that.

The point is he should have been played. He is extremely talented and quick. With the retirements of Stevens and King and the possible trading of Harvey, he will get the opportunity he has so long deserved in 2005. Thats if JYD can pull his head out of his ass long enough to see the talent he is wasting.

Fair enough, but why settle for Henneman? He's just spend his 22 games in the reserves too, he's rubbish.

Pointless trade, even on the unlikely scenario that Ash isn't in future plans.

Yeah cr@p trade. I wouldn't ditch Ash till he's been given a decent go for an extended period in the 1's anyway.

I'd rather have baird over Henneman, and they're similar in a way. What's the point in that? There'd be bigger backline KPP options for us to try and capture than the underperforming and overrated Henneman IMO.

Laidley is aware of Watson's talent and the kid will get a good run in the seniors in 2005. Stevo's retirement opens up a midfield spot for him and Grima to fight over.

However, I reckon the coach did make an error in playing (an obviously) injured Boomer, thus not opening up a spot for Watson. He could have given Boomer 2 to 4 weeks off and allowed Watson a run in the seniors during that time - it would have benefitted both players.

Agreed - by the end of the season all we were doing was

(a) Opening up the possibility of further aggrivation to the injury
(b) Telling the Junior players that we select the side on reputation rather than form
(c) Further damage Boomers esteem by playing him when he was obviously not 100%
(d) Deny a player like Watson the opportunity to have a run of games at the end of the season so that he can enter 2005 thinking that if he does the right thing there is a spot open for him. Don't want to get the Kid down after all

The article did not say that they were the only players out of contract, more that negotiations are under away with those 2. Nearly half the list would still be out of contract atm.

Great news about Harro re-signing though. I am worried about Sinclair and Jones however, I can see them leaving for nothing in the PSD. If they do decide to leave, I hope we can at least get something for them.

I usually reckon that you are on the money Shinners but I feel that I could search through the bigfooty archives and find that you said the same thing last year. I reckon he would have been getting a run this year if he was going to make it - his 2003 year was better'n his 2004 to my mind.

Thanks for the clarifacation there YOTR. I was reading the paper at work this morning and typed the stuff when I got home. I tend to agree with you about a large % of the list being out of contract but I would have thought it would be about 1/3 as most of the deals are two to three years and a few have been tied up during the year.
