Player Watch #4 Dustin Martin GOAT and King of Punt Rd - OFFICIALLY RETIRED

Suns can't afford $1m/year. They're battling to pay blokes to stay there as it is. What do you think their 2022 salary dump bollocks was all about. They're skint.
They would make room for Dusty 100%

They’ll burn down Punt Road if they trade him. He’s contracted. He’s on a huge amount. We’d demand pick 4+. It would shatter us as Dusty is more than just a player. Every time you want into the G you see the energy he has with our fans, young and old. Every time he’s near the ball our fans gasp. He’s the most recognisable figure in the league and he lives a private life.

Trading Dusty would hurt.

Makes no sense. Why would somebody with the obvious entrepreneurial spirit of Dusty not just take the $1.3M in 2024 ... THEN negotiate another bulky contract for the next 2 years instead.

Surely he's not in the business of reducing his wage.
Exactly this was shot down by hutchy on FC, who the **** would spread their 1 year wage over 3 years when they can earn it in one year and easily get more after that. Some huge insecure nuffies here

Only way we agree to trade is pick 4. Gc suns have to get points somehow so they are always going to trade it
So our earliest pick in the draft is 25 would you trade that & Martin for Pick 4 we pay no salary they either make a new contract for him at the Suns or they pay the full whack of 1.2m-1.4m

Purely hypothetical based on the unlikely scenario of Martin to Suns, but I think a fair deal for all could look something like this:

Dusty and Richmond 2023 2nd and 3rd round picks(roughly picks 30 & 45 if we took them to the draft, but worth more points than that to the Suns as they would likely use them early before the picks have been shuffled back too far.) Richmond pays all or most of Dusty's 2024 salary.

For

Suns 2023 pick 4(likely slides to 5 or 6) and Suns 2024 2nd round pick - expected value around pick 30.

That would probably **** our 2024 finals chances, but give us something like picks 5, 9, 29 and 30 across the next 2 drafts.

look, I would rather Dusty stay & re-sign with us.

but if he isn't going to do that & hypothetically speaking decides he wants to leave now is the time to do it, not when he is out of contract free agent end of 2024.

This speculation does the club no good, it needs to be sorted imo & Martin,Carr love the attention they could easily shut it down but they know it favours them.

In the end I don't think this stuff matters, when the ball is bounced to start next season it is all long forgotten.

Make of it what you want maybe catch up of friends , but I don't trust Dimma one bit since the way he went about it leaving us.
He's the coach of an oppo club, why would he have Richmond in his best interest anymore?

It's only logical

Yes he is , he is giving up earning that amount in one year.. how cooked are you guys 😂😂
But what’s he expected to earn in his next contact for following couple years?

He ain’t getting 1.4m again is he

As if gold coast don’t do everything they can to get dusty there for next season if he asks to go there

The AFL will subsidise his wage. He's a huge name in football and would be huge for marketing the game up there. AFL will pay him an ambassadors role to do a couple of ads, put his face on a few billboards etc

Yeah but if Dusty wants to play for them next season they will make it happen 100%

How they do it I dunno, AFL will step in for sure
Dusty in Gold Coast is so massive for the AFL and it’s marketing up there
It will get done if he wants to go there

Maybe cos they are tight with money then we get a super good deal for dusty… couple gun players 🤷‍♂️ who knows

He has a better chance at a 4th/5th/6th flag and norm in his final years playing for the suns than he does playing for Richmond

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

Does a tree make a sound if it falls in a Forrest and there's no one there to hear it?

Does a flag matter if there's no one to celebrate it?

Seriously though, we must keep Dusty. Things might look a bit grim this year, but ya never know we might bounce back quick next with a firing Lynch, Gibcus, a pre season into a few others, and a refreshed game plan. Having Dusty a part of that makes everyone walk taller..and increases our chances of a flag tenfold.

Dusty is the GOAT, I'd take 2-3 years more, and seeing dusty finish his career in the yellow back over any trade/pick.

AFL will try anything.
They changed rules after studying us which is unprecedented in any team sport in the World.

Imagine Fifa changing rules against Barcalona back in the day because they were too good with Messi?

Even Fifa did not stoop that low as the AFL.

Removing our GOAT is another process by the dirty AFL to weaken our club like having candlelit dinners with Dimma.

I hope the GOAT stays.

I think he will too,he is a Richmond man.
