He never belonged on an AFL list, really. Us and Adelaide in particular have a strange fascination with blokes whose physical limitations overshadow any footy brain-related strengths they may have. Hope he finds his level and has a long illustrious career with it, he has the attitude for it

Geez, considering his professionalism I'm surprised he hasn't stayed on in the state leagues in some capacity.
I’m surprised that Drury and every other player that has played AFL and VFL especially since North rejoined the VFL have decided to either go to other state leagues or into local leagues.
You think 1 or 2 would hang around at the VFL level with North to either fight to get back into the AFL or stay in the VFL.
But I guess when $$$$ is thrown around you can’t blame them for going.

If a player is delisted by a club, it's very very rare that they end up being re-listed by that same club.

Marty Hore at Melbourne is the only player in recent times who has been delisted by a club (Melbourne) and then re-listed by that same club.

Delisted players get far more opportunities to play the roles they want to at standalone clubs. It's not surprising that a club like Werribee get so many mature agers drafted.

Must be some decent coin being thrown around at local footy. Blake Drury signed at Vermont. They are putting together a very good list.

plenty who speak positively are scolded as well, i scolded nostra for his glowing endorsements of biggy who was a turnip.
Reckon that would be a rarity though. I just wish there would be less pile on for people with doubts. Look at any thread and someone posts some overly optimistic and delusional analysis on the first few pages and it receives 40,000 likes. Probably the same on every team board on Big Footy though.

Realistically though is it such a big deal? I mean i might have used biggy as an example but both him and drury were speculative picks at best.

I still remember the aaron black commotion. Cant even remember if he was a high pick bit the stuff like the aaron black airbus for example were pretty big tips. But reality is it was just punters making an early call.

What is wrong with showering people with a bit of positivity as they sign on?

I am a huge fan of anyone that puts the jumper on.

Not what I said/meant though. It’s more about the pile on when someone has a realistic evaluation about a player. Anything construed as negative is met with derision.

i get what your saying is in a general sense, back on topic however I think blake pretty well did all he could to succeed but just lacked the tools, looked to be a pretty hard worker and had a great attitude.
its probably more of a knock on our recruiters selecting the likes of blake given his lack of stand out attributes but its likely a realistic picture of whats left selection wise deep in the draft.

I know there is a lot of sentiment re river stevens as well, again taken deep in the draft, statistically he is really up against the odds to even be even a 10 game player. this is where you look at wasted opportunities such as sleevo and curtis taylor to a lesser extent that show some talent but really just want to coast along. I reckon drury and kayne turner were the type of blokes that probably got the most out of themselves with limited attributes. if drury had 5 percent more talent i reckon he could have been a pretty handy journeyman.

He’s not getting back on AFL list. Remember some people on the Phoenix Spicer thread (who is half the player Drury is) question the decision to delist him/imply he was AFL standard after he kicked a couple of cheap goals in the VFL.

Spicer was rubbish (scared of his own shadow for starters) and Drury is a decent footballer who does everything ok despite his size. Which was the problem, small and no point of difference to make him an asset at AFL level.
