So you think 3.6 marks per game with 0.6 contested is an acceptable return from a 196cm / 97kg KPF getting the 2nd or 3rd defender every week?

I will take 3.6 and 0.6 and 2 goals from a 3rd banana, every day of the week.

When he can be isolated, he is even far more damaging.

Fair enough htb. You would have to agree though, that the one thing brad seems to have got right is conditioning. While still slight, the natural muscle will pack on our players when theyre ready. Now might also be a good time to paraphrase Lachie, "this preseason ive stacked on muscle ive been unable to do prior, due to injury."

anyway, My pref is to go in unchanged. Taz Petrie and Hansen. I think Taz is the least safe out of those three.

There's a lot of Malthouse in his style. I can't say that I find it that aesthetically pleasing.

If they play like they did in the last half of 2012, then the triple towers is as safe as houses, and we will be certainties for the finals. They will be even more potent if we improve our run and carry and attack more through the corridor.

Some of your comments on LT are completely out of order ATGreat.

Maybe take some of your own advice?

The two are mutually exclusive cases.

Robbie has had, what, 4 shoulder reco's, and has only played 25 games of pretty decent football for a young forward. Lindsay has been good for 150. But overall no better than good.

The fact big men take time and that he is only recently developing the required confidence in his body which hopefully allows him to get better suggest he may have a higher ceiling than just good. I think he could kick at least 50 goals in a year if he played all 25.

Harper definitely still the big one yet to be done.

Grima, Wright, Mullett, etc will have their contracts extended with a good year. I don't fear them being poached. And obviously not Firrito, Harvey and Petrie either.
Yep, I can well imagine Harps has had big money dangled in front of him. I'm happy with prognostications suggesting he could well be our best player down the track - I've got my fingers and other body parts crossed.

Despite the fact that some dickhead will repeat, generalise and lampoon the comment (ala "Everyone on the norf board reckons he's as good as Ablett") I see Ablett-esque qualities to him and reckon if he needs an example or benchmark he need not aim lower.

Tarrant needs to hold onto a few more marks IMO. Daw and Black are looming.

Hater. Taz is an awesome contested mark. Those other two players have no hope.

Ps; Just testing out what I should be writing mate to keep the Taz fan club happy :thumbsu:

Play maj as the sub. Keep the 3 Talls as per last year. Move Hansen or Petrie back at times to stop the bleeding as required.

Why can't we play Hansen, Petrie, Tarrant and Daw. **** it I'd throw black in there 2 if I could. Height in afl is becoming less relevant by the day, the Talls are 6'5 and the mids/medium forwards are 6'2+. Black or Daw are fast enough and good enough at ground level and push Harper, Adams and Thomas further up the ground.

Win the ball and have 4 options with Wells, Harper and co running toward goals will be hard to stop.

Because the midfield have been immature and wilt under pressure.

When they start taking their share of the load, then I will be in full support of this scenario.

Would I risk it against a side full of runners like Collingwood in round 1? Hell no.

IMO Loose is very underrated and his importance to the team is also underrated (more by non North supporters). I am also of the view that Taz needs to take more marks or more specifically needs to hold the 2 or so marks per game that he gets to and should hold but drops. This may be a hangover from the shoulder recos and if so will obviously improve.

I said this at the start of the year.

Both are solid footballers but they don't provide enough leadership and they aren't really that accountable.

Firrito have given away 5 costly 50's this year and McMahon has had his ass handed to him by Jude Bolton today.

Both are slow, and provide next to no rebound from defence.

My two cents.

Hard to argue with this.

Both slow, McMahon users it better but not in damaging positions, spud gets it in damaging spots and wastes it.

Hine has overtaken both on today's performance.

Hine mullet and atley are our best combo smalls down back.

The issue is they dont fight it out for 4 quarters. They are not seen as resilient types for who if you **** up around them or if you do something wrong- they pull you in line. And its due to them performing the said **** ups.
And its spread through the backline.
I have been very critical of the midfield today but the defence has to show some backbone and someone ANYONE keep possession of the ball, halt momentum, chip it around for 5 minutes. But nothing. They bomb it long to the CHF on the boundary, the opposition sets up for this moving their halfbacks to this area and they through a sheer weight of numbers cause a 7 point play.
To be honest they epitomize the team in terms of when we are on, the switching of McMahon or Spud running the lines and taking a tackle or even Narnis 1 percenters or Thompson outmarking the gun forward, we look ****ing awesome. But as soon as the pressure picks up and ours falls off, we see free kicks, fiftys, fumbles, dropped marks the whole lot creep in. No composure, no coolness, all the smartness they possess to attack goes missing when its time to bunker down.
