Night games and the MCG.
Something about them.

His 4th goal was insane. What is it with us and crazy come backs to the Punt Road end? Deserved the win.

I hope the club lobbies to get more games at the G, like we had in 2020 before Covid changed the fixture.

Think we had 4 games locked in, with away games to Carlton and Essendon believe it or not.
2020 is the only season we’ve never played a game at the MCG.

It’s funny because in one way you’re right, but I think his best footy is a product of how the team performs rather than he being a barometer for the team.

Reality is we had no structure ahead of the footy for 10 weeks and could hardly get any quality ball in there. When we’re up and about so is he because he knows how to get on the end of good footy.

Absolutely. He only plays well when we are up and about

I'm leaning towards him staying.

He brought a pretty big game last night.

My biggest knock on Cam is he takes half a season to settle into consistent good footy.

We need him invested and bringing from round 1.
I think so also

It’s clear the kids coming are going to make us successful

He has a lot of close mates here

A 5 year contract

Would be silly to leave after the hard years

I come back to this point myself.

I don’t know how any current North player could not want to be a part of what we are so clearly building.
Some are just tired of waiting (like all of us) and given there are no guarantees, with their footy careers being short, some would suggest that going to a successful club is the way to go. Ask Ben McKay if he regrets the move right now

Bull was giving it to Viney before LDU came up to him and celebrated with Bull.View attachment 2027725
Hard to imagine what Todd Viney would have been feeling in the box with Clarko, watching his son dominating the game but watching that great comeback from us

You're right there are no guarantees.

I wouldn't call essendon successful. Their current record has them at flat track bullies. They have beaten 1 side of note.

Their only real chance at a flag would be to Bradbury one. They are what we were. Mid table trying to punch above their weight.

We listened to that song enough to know that Brad the pied piper is leading them on a path that merely goes around in circles.

McKay has his Salary to keep him company and buy houses because really isn't that what it is all about.

He will next year after they brick in the finals, Goldy retires and their midfield goes back to being average with a much harder draw. Even if they do finish top 4 from here which looks likely, no way they win week 1 playing Carlton or Sydney and I'd tip just about any of the 5th-8th contenders to then eliminate them in straight sets. Freo, GWS, the Bulldogs, Collingwood, maybe even a hungry Suns side in their first finals outing would all be licking their lips at the prospect.

Or, yeah, maybe it's purely about the money for him and he won't mind.

They would play
Carlton
GWS or Geelong
Sydney

They wouldn't beat Carlton.

THey'd be a shot against GWS and Geelong.

I doubt anyone is getting past Sydney.

He's very much an icing on the cake type of player, and that's not being disrespectful to him, when we are up and about he's flying and if we're struggling then so is he.

Look, I hate them as much as anybody else, but the fact is they are winning games today and we are not. We may believe that we will be overtaking them soon, but the proof will be in the pudding. The fact is McKay already won more games than he probably has in his career to date

Obviously still a lot to play out in this season but after messing with the ladder predictor I have them losing to Sydney and the Bulldogs in straight sets

Ben's likely thick enough to believe they are successful.

The camera work on that goal was awesome, i dont know why but the bouncing around just worked.

Yep I'm reasonably confident he extends his contract. The beef with JHF was a strong signal about his stance at North. North and his own continued good form is a win-win for him - I think the ideal situation is that he gets a payrise at North, knowing that he is playing for a club with an exciting future. Though I also totally understand if he gets $$$ that he cannot refuse at another club.

I agree - the last few years suggest that he is not a floor-raising type of player, but a ceiling-raiser. An X-factor player who can win finals but definitely not a player who plays well for a struggling side.

Like any premiership team, which we're aiming to be, players simply have to accept a little less than market value to be part of that.
The sad fact is unless we hold true to that, we could cost everyone else on the list a flag.

The ideal situation is to see * barely hang on to 4th at the end of the season and then go out of the finals in straight sets.

Staying or going? Who knows.

But if he is going, then I hope we have a plan for the forward line in 25. Z is underperforming overall for his talent but still kicks one or two a week - and we need to average another 3-4 goals a game.

Teakle helps for structure. But god I’d love an elite small crumber.
One of Ford or Duursma has to play wing I think to make room for a crumbing pressure forward if Cam stays.
Don't think all four bring enough pressure together at this stage but it's improved recently.
How does RHJ/Payne (Kako/Berry/Champion/Bradley) look in there with Larkey/Teakle/Duursma/Curtis/Zurhaar?
Would be interesting to see if it looks different or not.

This is all based on emotions though. I hope he stays but realistically hes had a offer with him from us for a long time and he still hasn't signed it. If you read that Jy article Cam is clearly waiting for success because he cant go through another waste of 4-5 years. Just remember he was on the cusp of leaving before Clarko came.

I hope he just wants more money from us and not driving up his contract price for another club

Reckon he's gone. Would love him to stay but he's still fidgeting around now when several teammates have committed long term.

This messaging around us needing to prove ourselves to him is actually pretty distasteful if it really is coming from his camp.
It's conjuring images of apples and Marilyn Monroe.

That depends. If it translates as "All I want to see is some hope for the future" or wtte I can understand it.

Otherwise yeah I tend to agree.
