Mod Notice

The level of vitriol and frankly toxic culture in this thread is getting out of hand. As such, the thread will be monitored actively for posters who drag down the quality of posting for all others, and they will have their access to the thread removed.

Further, reference to TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) and its counterpart 'Trumpanzee' or anything similar will no longer be allowed. Much like other tropes of that nature, they serves as a conversational barrier and fall-back point for people to simply sling mud. That's unacceptable.

As always, please submit ideas for the thread title by tagging me! Winner announced when I get around to it.

Thanks.

For the record, Trump is not responsible for institutionalised racism in the US. That pre-dates Trump.

But I'd say it's an open question whether he has further contributed to it.

I also think his willingness to offer tacit support for some kinds of civil unrest has not been helpful.

Furthermore, let's concede that it's not Trump's fault in any direct sense. But now, in this moment, what should a president be doing/saying? Is Trump capable of that? What is the potential upside in tweeting about "the shooting starts"? What is that designed to achieve?
I think people like Jussie have inflamed it more. Validating a preconception that it is going on, faking it and making it real.

Jussie isn't president.

Stop shifting blame.

Institutional racism is a fact of American life. It's now boiling over.

What is the president's plan to deal with this crisis? Tweeting probably isn't going to do it.

What a bunch of ******* neanderthals to gang up and bash that poor bloke to within an inch of his life. And the mindfullness of that charmer in the end to rifle through his pockets. So very much like the Hong Kong protesters. My heart goes out to them and their cause.
He was pointing a weapon at people.

You know someone in HK got set on fire, right?

Google "hong kong set on fire".

This guy. Outside his car yelling, "all lives matter" then he uses a bow and arrow against protestors. Gets attacked. Goes on Fox News and claims he was attacked by two African Americans while he was inside his car and not outside.

Feral racist.
I didn't see him use the bow. Did he fire any arrows? Wasn't arrested so prolly not?

With respect, you are wrong.
When we saw the predominately white, conservative protesters a few weeks ago we didn't hear language coming out of the White House such as "When the looting starts, the shooting starts" to aggravate the situation.
What we did hear though was support for the protesters.
In contrast did we hear a similar level of support coming from the White House for these current protests?
No?
Why would the Whitehouse support these current protests when they are looting, burning buildings and wrecking property?

You might prefer to focus on a less obviously untrue statement ...

FFS stop acting as if you're a peanut or slow learner, because you're not.

Back to the beginning we go for the last time.

I agreed with TP that Trump's use of deaths per 100,000 vs total tests for Covid was dishonest.

I then said there has been occasions despite the media proclaiming a claim he's made to be full of shit it has turned out to be true. I've given you an example where he was interviewed claiming Muslims celebrated 9/11. No mention of thousands like the rally which was a different occasion (the occasion you'd prefer to focus on). The media, using the former Jersey City Mayor's comments at the time took the position that NO ONE celebrated. The former former New York City Mayor Guiliani and the former New York City Police Commissioner and many others however disagreed with that assessment and so the media like you moved onto focusing on his separate, hyperbolic rally comments.

It's as simple as that. Move onto something else.

I think I'm adequately identifying issues that have lead to this.

Jussie is a great example because the media couldn't get that story on the metaphorical front page fast enough, it suited the narrative. See, white america really is out to get black people!

Their news system is so geared to enrage everyone and it works.

This is what we get.

The reality is that Trump made bullshit claims about what he "saw on TV" after 9/11.

The facts did not prove him correct.

People were absolutely right to question his claims.

Different to using it... especially when its in the middle of a riot and people are having the shit smashed out of them by raving lunatics
What kind of argument is this?

You can't go into a crowd and start pointing a weapon at people and not expect a reaction.

Were talking about what Trump said around 9/11 not when he was running for President.

Actually, I think you'll find that prior to 2015 he didn't mention this issue. In fact that's what some early reporters jumped on at the time. "You had a public profile, why is this the first time you're mentioning this?"

You're blame shifting.

Rather than focus on the response of the government, you want to talk about a minor celebrity. It's nonsense.

"But your honour why am I being charged for armed robbery?? I just pointed the gun at the bank clerk, not my fault he thought I might use it"
