Anyone here that is capable of reading and looking beyond the mindless dribble of binary politics who wants to get an understanding of the history of the American narrative that drives the sort of political violence we saw play out today...

He lived here during the Rudd/Gillard/Abbott years and wrote some of the best commentary on it.

Why would a gun nut republican do this though? That’s who Trump appeals to.

Whole thing seems weird and he obviously knew it was a suicide mission. Mental illness seems like the only logical answer to me anyway.

See the Rabin assassination.

The political spectrum isn’t just ‘us versus them’, it can also be ‘us versus extreme us’.

I can imagine the exchange the next time a journo asks Trump about gun control.

'Mr Trump, in light of the recent assassination attempt, does that change your view on restrictions for military-style rifles like the one used?'

'No, no it doesn't. There are some very bad people, very, very bad people out there, crazy people, but there are a lot of good people with guns who we need to have guns and that's why we have the Second Amendment. That's why we have it. The radical left would have America become a lawless country, completely lawless because that's what happens when citizens can't protect themselves. We can't have that.'

Just a thought.

Gun nut, good shooter, appears to have a silenced weapon.
