Also amongst his contracts is Amalia Halikias, director of the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank behind the controversial Project 2025. So much for Trump saying he knows nothing about Project 2025, and the ones behind it trying to claim they are sepertate from the Republican Party. They are all in the same boat.

That’s not unreasonable, and it happens all the time .

(1)

If you have a problem with your car, you could try to fix it yourself, or (more likely) you go to somebody who you think is an expert and get them to fix it.

(2)

If a Republican President has a Supreme Court place to fill, they are free to nominate who they please. Or they could contact the Federalist Society to get them to nominate someone - Federalist Society will have done all the hard work of sifting through the weeds of judgements and vetting suitable candidates that would make Republican voters happy.

(3)

If Trump gets elected, he is free to put whoever he wants in appointed roles (subject to the confirmation process) or he could simply ask the Project 2025 folks to suggest suitable candidates who they’ve vetted.

Nothing stopping you or I from starting up an organisation to make recommendations for appointments.

Apparently Trumps speech to close out the RNC was a bit of a mess.

In fact a few "undecided" voters were interviewed after it. And they pointed out it was too long (93 mins), made it all about himself, busted lying heaps, and offered no real policy in a long 93 minutes of rambling.

Some of the noteworthy highlights from his speech.

1. Asked people if they knew his friend the "late great Hannibal Lecter"

2. Praised Hungarys authoritarian leader Viktor Orban (another Putin Puppet)

3. Said North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un missed him

4. Attacked the UAW Union

5. Called covid the "China virus"

6. Said he was buying votes in Wisconsin

7. He thought Scott Walker was still the Governor of Wisconsin, and praised his leadership. The Governor is actually Democrat Tony Evers who did not even attend.

8. He said he was going to "take over the auto industry"

9. Called Nancy Pelosi "Crazy Nancy"

10. He said he wanted to hold the next Republican Convention in Venezuela

11. Spread lies about the 2020 election

12. Bragged that the Taliban called him "your excellency", and said that they probably don't call Biden that

See some of it below.

He’s having fun seeing how much shit he can spin and still romp back into power

Or not, when he can keep the movement going for another tilt in 4 years, keeping the swamp topped up with sewage

People who attend rallies are cult like from both sides.

It’s completely different compared to Australia. The though of liking a politician that much seems unrealistic to me

It’s tribalism, which is innate in all humans.

For them attending the RNC and cheering as a group for their leader is tantamount to you attending the MCG and cheering as a group for your footy team.

Chief Would be great if BF introduced a rule that posting emojis in response to thread comments was only allowed for those actively participating in thread commentary.

Promotes thread participation rather than drive by/pile on sniping emojis.

You could call it the Boogers rule.
The rules of normal etiquette should apply.

If a user is being a pain, trolling, disruptive with their use of the reaction feature they can be barred from it.

Running out of toilet paper was quite liberating for these people.

Ah, they were the good old days, you really knew you were alive.

The kids of today don’t understand how good they’ve got it with such easy access to toilet paper, back in our day we had to …

Will be interesting if they apply the same rule to Hunter’s case as they did to Trump’s
If it ends up in the SC the ruling will be intresting

If trump is in power sc will reject hunter as trump case will be over
If trump is not power , hunter has a chance to win because the 6 conservative judges would not want trump to face court on such high charges

And they won’t look beyond the circumstances?
Joe Biden would struggle to finish a 1000 piece puzzle with his current mental state. It’s a hard sell to say he will lead Americans out of this. Cost of living is out of control and Biden hasn’t got answers.

Huge tensions around the world with Russia, China and Israel…. Who would the average American feel confident could manage that better? Trump clearly has the runs on the board.

The worlds in a troubling position and we will see a lot of governments “voted out” as opposed to people “voted in”

The problem here is that when they were in opposition and Obama nominated a person for the vacancy in the SC, the Republicans - who were in charge of the house - refused to hold a vote. This was not normal, and had never happened before. Sure, filibuster exists, but never before had the house refused to even discuss an SC nominee like this.

All in pursuit of overthrowing Roe.

Schedule F - the bill that reclassifies a significant percent of public servants as political appointments - is what makes this significantly different from normal. It most certainly does not happen 'all the time', because government needs expertise to make reality based policy decisions.

So, not really normal, no.

Trump let 5000 taliban prisoners released and wanted to have the leaders Over for a cup of tea at camp david on the 9/11 anniversary
Trump will leave Nato which will let the Russians do what they want . Invade baltic states?
Trump will tear up international free trade treaties unless they favour usa

Might eve scrap AUKUS? USA. USA. USA. Yay!

Hard to say. Plenty of high functioning people forget where they’ve put their keys, or mix up the names of their kids.

How do his recent public gaffes translate to his ability / inability to run the country?

Nobody would really have any idea. But it clearly isn’t good.

It’s a hard sell to say he will lead Americans out of this.

Agree, but that’s not what he’s selling.

He’s trying to sell that he would do a better job (or wouldn’t do a worse job) than the other guy. Which, depending on your point of view may be an easier sell. Particularly if you’re somebody who believes in “Anyone but Trump” or “Even an untrained monkey could do a better job than Trump”.

Cost of living is out of control …

Not really. Inflation rate is nowhere near what it was at the end of the 80’s. And yet Americans kept the same party in power all through it.

… and Biden hasn’t got answers.

He doesn’t need to. He just has to be a better option than the other bloke.

Can you point to Trumps answers to the current inflation situation?

The Taliban run Afghanistan, who was going to imprison them?

As for NATO who knows. But the USA probably feel to man countries are mooching off their Military.

And that unhinged lunatic Trump is the answer?

* Senate.

Sure, and the Republicans could reasonably be branded hypocrites for confirming Amy Coney Barrett in the same circumstances.

But how many people do you think assess their politicians on the basis of ‘fair’ and ‘reasonable’?

Most Australian footy fans don’t run to the gun cabinet if their team loses.
