I'm sure we all remember when Donald and Kushner announced they'd "solved" the Middle East problem once and for all. Or at least, the Israel part of it. Except that it hadn't occurred to them to run their solution past any of the parties actually involved, especially the Palestinians.

This comment might belong in the Israel war thread, but I'm loathe to post there (though I do read) because I don't have a deep enough understanding of the history. But one thing I am close to convinced of, but that Donald doesn't acknowledge, is that at least some of the parties involved (by which I mean the parties with access to, and control over, the arms) don't actually want peace. Constant unrest is their reason for existence (in the case of Hamas, Hezbollah and the like) or provides a distraction from actually governing a country for the benefit of the citizens (in the case of the Israeli and Iranian governments). The people of Israel, of the Palestinian territories, of Lebanon and of other neighbours are just insignificant pawns in their power plays.
