To be fair, Australians given pop geography quizzes tend to do quite badly as well,

I was over there in October/November, all i got asked about was how dangerous are the kangaroos, i'm guessing based on Tik Tok and Facebook, and in one instance we were at a shop in Laurel Mississippi, it is where a TV show about home reno is filmed that we watch, one person heard our voice, and her comment was, " do you get this show in Australia ".

They live in their own little world over there.

Not me. I did 4 years of home schooling with a map of the world on my desk (obviously not the extent of "geography").

That aside, been to the US a few times. Mostly bigger cities but some medium sized in the South, and also meet people from elsewhere on tours, at bars etc.

I see a similar mix that you would get here. Some people who've travelled overseas, some even worked/studied in Aus, some who seem naturally curious, know different languages (I don't), but even with these people, they may not know heaps about Australia (aside from those who've been) and that's reasonable, like we're a smaller country with far less cultural, economic or geopolitical impact.

Even those who aren't any of these things, that's not necessarily their doing. It takes money and time to travel, and can also depend on upbringing etc around whether you're curious about the world / want to see it.

I know for me growing up in regional SA, no-one really travelled overseas much that I remember, it just wasn't a doable thing for many and you weren't surrounded by people telling you it's great to do for fun (did attend a mission focused church). In my family, my parents never went/won't go overseas. I was mid 20s when I left the country (to NZ) and only got really hooked later on, some friends and family have travelled lots, some not.

if trump wasn't such a lying, greedy, narcissistic POS he'd could be a good politician because he doesn't GAF what people think of him.
I think empathy is what makes a good politician. But then you have to find an empathetic person who is self-obsessed enough to think they can win a Presidential election, including shamelessly begging billionaires for money, trading away good policy for financial contributions. All for a relatively small paycheck (outside the corruption).

It's the system which corrupts the good people who want to become politicians. If you're already corrupt and lack empathy it's just a lot easier to work in the system which rewards it.

Hey, before lurking and then joining this august forum, all I knew of Australia was from Croc Dundee, Steve Irwin, and Yahoo Serious.

Now, from what I've learned here....

rather than communist russia taking over the "west" like we were told to fear in the 80's. America will become more and more like Russia is now. A tyrant in control of things, and a bunch of sycophantic oligarch doing his bidding whilst they plunder all the wealth they can.

They blamed the Dems for the riot, and claimed they were FBI plants. They would have just continued that line, but harder.

Disgusting revolting behaviour, and something must be done about those Democrat FBI plants who killed Pence, to try to frame our Dear, Dear, wonderful, totally innocent leader.

Possibly, but that narrative only really took off once establishment Republicans realized Trump hadn't lost any base support and they needed them and him.

A hanged VP would have led to a quick impeachment and he would have lost most of power before they had time to come up with these made up stories

Biden was right that it's turning into an oligarchy. But he's been in the halls of power for 3 decades. He's responsible for letting it happen. And didn't say anything until his last week?

GTFO.

Blame Trump all you like, but Biden didn't reverse them and Harris didn't campaign on reversing them.

Trickle-down economics is still bipartisan in the USA. The Dems are just slightly-less-trickle.
Biden called for corporate tax rate to be raised (just not all the way back). This was in proposed budgets.

It's up to Congress to do so.

But he didn't get that done while he had the House and Senate.

He did introduce a 15% tax minimum for companies earning over $1billion. Which would be a good idea in Australia given how much tax our minerals extractors pay (i.e. Santos)
