Which proves he isn't popular and doesn't prove that 'America voted for him' Which you've previously stated.

Reality is that less than a 3rd of population voted for him, and that's the point.
Does not change the fact that the Republicans won the presidency, the house, the senate, the popular vote and all of the swing states. People can dress up the numbers to make it seem like there was nothing in it all they want. My first statement is pure fact.

But how do we know it wasn’t stolen?

No-one's denying that. But it's much more complicated than that. This article is very interesting.

A strikingly apt analogy. If I may extend it… the disturbing consequence of Henry’s exclamation was that Becket was murdered in his quarters at Canterbury Cathedral by a band of knights who decided to act upon what they perceived to be the King’s wishes.
I know you know this— just thought it was pertinent to your point, even acknowledging that you might not have intended to push the point as far as I have.
Some of Trump’s supporters are mad enough to do anything.
The attack on Paul Pelosi comes to mind.

Just a recommendation, if anyone is ever near Canterbury Kent, visit the cathedral and Beckett shrine. It. Really beautiful even for a cynic like me

bernie never disappoints. what a president he would make.

The only thing that suprises me is that Bernie was surprised Trump didn't mention a single one of those issues of vital importance to Americans.

Because everyone (except those who blindly voted for him, it seems) knows Donald Trump doesn't GAF about any of it.

Having said that, how beautiful to see a normal, no-BS humane human speaking normal, no-BS humanity in every sentence.

THAT is what a real human being looks and acts and behaves and talks like, Trump dupes!

Yep stunning.

The casual racism of a lot of the memorial plaques on the walls troubled me when I was there many years ago. Maybe they've been sanitised now.

Honestly, a lot of it was In Loving Memory of Major Nigel Hawksworth-Phudley, cruelly murdered by the treacherous darkies whilst faithfully serving Her Majesty in the colonies"

Even to a then-pretty conservative, un-political kid in his twenties like me, it was startling.

That's why I mainly stuck to exploration of cricket grounds.

Seems a bit "whataboutism" to me.

Not really.

The US has a shit electoral system. Trump doesn’t have a resounding mandate, he didn’t even get the majority of the votes from those who did vote.

It’s good to be aware of facts.

Presidency
House
Senate
Popular vote
All swing states.

This is undisputable.

Of course it doesn’t. The longer-term issue for the US is why a majority of those who voted chose a person who is so demonstrably unfit for any leadership position in a civilised society. If they fail to crack that conundrum — and soon — they’re f*cked.

In 2015-16 maybe I would have agreed. In the Trump era, he or anyone in his orbit who is popular can get away with anything. The shadow of WWII is long gone now, and to many people there is no shame in far-right rhetoric.
You're absolutely right B1. The thin edge of the wedge has now been superseded by the ever-increasing thickness in terms of their normalising of abnormal behaviours.

We are getting frighteningly close to where one of these Trumpians actually owns their nazi salute proudly, and is not banished - or at least admonished - by large sections of the media (both social and otherwise).

Can just imagine Laura Ingraham, with a constipated look on her face, declaring “who is to say that Hitler and the Nazis were bad people? Because a book says so, because the left wing media says so?”

That’s in the realm of things that are too ridiculous to actually happen, but probably will.

I think most of them deep down know he won't.

He will make life worse for their political opponents though, which appeals to them.

'If we are miserable, you will be too '

Crabs in a bucket.

I think time will tell

I think the mega wealthy believe their lives are better the wealthier they get, wealthy people will always get more wealthy, that's less about Trump and moreso capitalism in general. The more cash ya got, the easier it is to get more of it.

Many of these guys saw their wealth increase from 2016-2020.

The sad thing is that i suppose money is what drives happiness for these guys in the top 1%, at least i think so.

The main point is not to be swayed by the hoopla and hysteria of Trump's rallies. Almost as many Americans hate him.

I mean it's still a fact he won the majority of the popular vote, but yes it was very close i previously added the word "far majority" in which was wrong in hindsight, if you take a look at the EC it looks like a belting but if you dive in, that was also close in key states. When i was watching it live i thought he was torching harris but really it was pretty close.

regardless of the semantics I don't think the EC is a good system. It's very different to how other countries conduct their government voting.

Here's a question for people, how many people in your life that you converse with happens to like Trump?

I have found in mine the vast majority that openly profess any positivity or favourability toward him are those in my gym when casual chat inevitably turns to American politics. It's probably not a suprise with how bro-y these places can get, but it's always interesting and weird to come across Australians so passionate about him.

people generally think Trump is a lunatic, i actually think more older people dislike him than younger do. At least that's what I see, which makes sense given the voting patterns in the US, where alot of young men voted for him.
