Serious question
Who writes the best lyrics?
How far back do you want to go? I could write an essay on this but not really the place for it.
Chuck Berry was a genius.
Hal David with Bacharach.
Bernie Taupin with Elton John.
Mick Jagger is underrated as a lyricist.
Bowie has his moments.
Robbie Robertson.
Joey Ramone.
John Lydon.
Neil Finn, Paul Kelly, Don Walker, Tim Rodgers. I could go on all day.

If I’m forced to pick only on then it’s Dylan.

The Dems did have a primary. No-one with anywhere near enough popularity or status challenged Biden, so it was easier for the DNC to treat it as a fait accompli though.

Then when Biden withdrew the only choices were to have a contested convention or as it happened, Harris secured enough delegates to gain the nomination.

This is a little disingenuous. Biden suspended his campaign on 21 July. Harris announced her campaign on the same day, and Biden immediately endorsed her. Nancy Pelosi then endorsed Harris on 22 July. With those endorsing her, it would be pretty obvious that there was a lot of lobbying behind the scenes to ensure that the Democrat delegates supported Harris to avoid a contested convention (though there were some Democrats that wanted to hold a contested convention).

Here's a question for people, how many people in your life that you converse with happens to like Trump?

I have found in mine the vast majority that openly profess any positivity or favourability toward him are those in my gym when casual chat inevitably turns to American politics. It's probably not a suprise with how bro-y these places can get, but it's always interesting and weird to come across Australians so passionate about him.

My wife's family came to Australia from Central America as refugees in the late 1980s. My mother-in-law would vote for Trump if she could. Very religious, very conservative. My father came to Australia with his family as refugees fleeing the Soviets and my father voted Liberal in every single election from when he became a citizen and entitled to vote. It was interesting to see how the Hispanic vote in Florida in particular for Trump went up so markedly compared to the 2020 election. Both my mother-in-law and my father would strongly support Trump's policy on migrants, and I don't think they would be alone in that regard.

Multi billion Diesel fuel excise rebates for mining is of course not wasteful
Companies in which Gina Rinehart is a significant shareholder got more than $1 billion from the feds in one week last year.

One of those companies got another $200 million the other day, too.

Snouts in the trough whilst complaining about waste is hypocrisy of the highest order.

I’m in my 60’s, been a musician most of my life and been quite shocked to discover some of my contemporaries are Trump supporting.
Turns out they’re into the tinfoil hat Covid stuff and believe all the Gates, Soros, WHO, UN, Big Brother stuff.
When I bring up the trashing the environment, removing health care, letting big pharma charge what they want they don’t know what I’m talking about. They don’t read the fine print, just think Trump will save them from 5G microchips & jail Fauci.
Gigs mostly in Freo and Margaret River, yeah?

His Maccas appearance sealed the deal.
Jesus, you even got THAT wrong !

When he ended up with someone else's brain matter splattered across his face + bidens debate debacle was when it was over.

And this disproves the 'America voted for him', giving the impression he was popular winner.

He isn't popular among the electorate at all. Not even a 3rd.
But the opposite isn't true either. At best you could infer that the cohort of eligible voters who didn't vote at all are ambivalent to Trump, at worst.

America may not have "voted for him" in the narrow definition you are going with, but America absolutely "voted him in" to the White House.

Trump won the election.
He didn't win the majority of votes from registered voters.
The majority of the American population didn't vote for him.

These are all true statements.

Any statements to the end that the majority of Americans support him, or his agenda, are therefore false statements.

Their electoral system is deeply broken.

I agree with all of that. My issue was that it was being used as some sort of justification that America, as a collective don't want/support Trump. The result of the election says that, of those who care strongly enough about it to vote, enough people wanted Trump over Biden.

I took it as being used the other way, particularly by one specific poster who keeps claiming the 'majority' voted for Trump as justification for all his arguments.

They didn't, not by any metric; the actual voters, the eligible voters, the eligible population, or the total population.

It's only the makeup of their election system being bad that has allowed Trump to have anything other than the most wafer-thin margins of victory.

Their election system isn't fit for purpose, and results in a significant amount of the population not being represented (e.g. Conservative voting Californians).

The below sounds particularly dystopian. As reported by ABC news.

Federal workers told to dob in colleagues who 'disguise' DEI programs

By Andrew Thorpe

The White House isn't just directing federal agencies to eliminate DEI programs (diversity, equity and inclusion), it's also encouraging workers to report on any attempts by their colleagues to "disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language" — and threatening workers who don't dob in their colleagues with "adverse consequences".
Federal employees are being sent emails by their agency heads that specify they have 10 days to report such instances or face potential disclipinary action.
The emails were based on a template provided by the White House's Office of Personnel Management, according to The New York Times.
So, this will absolutely not be interpreted as, dob in any agency who hires someone non white?

And agencies just deciding it's easier to hire white guys will not happen I'm sure.

Any suggestion that this was the point entirely wrong?

Biden would have won, Kamala was the wrong choice of opponent.

But yes the fight gif did wonders for Trump's superhuman image. He really is a man for all seasons.

I'm not so sure of that.

The “crooked election” lie again.
Well the upside is if the left ever decide to go all " jan 6th " then we can just say " but crooked election, it was okay when you mutts did it "

Not that ol' Crow-Crow would endorse that kinda thing

:)
