Anyone contemplating travelling to the US in coming weeks and months (as I am) needs to be aware of disturbing edicts coming from the White House empowering US Border officials to act with even greater vigour in screening legal tourists and business visitors entering the US.

What the administration calls 'enhanced vetting' procedures at ports of entry to the US is coupled the administration is targeting legal immigrants who have expressed views that the government believes threaten national security and undermine foreign policy. (and yes that could easily be extended to include social media posts with border officials having the power to review mobile phone content on entry).

It is an extraordinary development that has prompted the Governments of UK and Germany to issue travel advisories for the US including a warning that anyone found breaking its entry rules could face arrest or detention.
