Re: 34. Kyle Hardingham

Has been a revelation in our backline so far this season, can see him staying in the side all year as well which is a huge improvement... thought he was just a depth player end of last season.

Amazing athletic ability!!

Re: 34. Kyle Hardingham

Big thing in his play this year is being judicious when flying for marks - Has been going up third man and killing the contest.

Like Hardingham, Heppell and Hibberd in the team because they are good in the air - and can chop out for other defenders.

Re: #5: Brent Stanton - Reflecting on 2011

While we're on the topic, Hardingham kicks into the man on the mark an awful lot. Never seen a man kick it into the MOTM so much. Most noticeable in about the last 6 games of the year. Regardless, still a big fan.

Re: #5: Brent Stanton - Reflecting on 2011

I'm hoping Hardingham wont be best 22 this year. I like a lot of what he has, but he gets caught under the ball too often for a defender, and his disposal is one dimensional (kick as far as you can every time) and a bit wonky.

Much prefer Hibberd.

You don't reckon he has significant room for improvement?

Re: #5: Brent Stanton - Reflecting on 2011

I don't think they're competing for spots, anyway.

Hardingham gives us so much flexibility back there. Even though he's only 184cm(?), he's played on key forwards during matches, and he's fitted to both "third tall" types like Andrew Walker and the smaller types like Jeff Garlett.

Whereas Hibberd seems to be your lock down small defender.

IMO both fit in.

Player Watch #34: Kyle Hardingham - Worst kick at the club?

I'd argue that Henry Slattery's disposal sells us into trouble just as much. Hopefully there isnt a need to play him this year.

Whomb, The same can be said of Stants, love the guy, but when he makes an error (which is no where near as much as some people make out) its usually a glaring one.

Hardingham was immense for us last year, even if you only count the amount of times he flys 3rd man up and smashes the ball over the boundary. Lamaros, i think you under rate him. His first half of the year last year was as good as any other 3rd man up defender in the comp IMO.

Re: #5: Brent Stanton - Reflecting on 2011

I think he might have reached his best. I hope he can improve but I'm not sure I see it.

Interesting comment based on a bloke who established himself as a key player in our backline in his second year.

First half of the year was very good then tailed off a little toward the end of the season with some shocker single acts over a few of the late rounds.

Massive ability and still plenty of scope for improvement.

lol, yep, can't think of a single player that's improved after their first full season of AFL football... Not one.

He established himself as a key player as much as Myers did.

I just don't think he has as much room for improvement as some others, and his weaknesses are things I'm not a big fan off.

Happy to be proven wrong though.

IMO his kicking can at times be off but nowhere near the worst kick in the team.

As for getting lost under the ball, this happens to him rarely but when it happens it stands out spectacularly as he'll jump 6 meters in the air before the ball arrives then the pack jumps over him when he lands. Don't think it's that much of a weakness IMO

Re: #34: Kyle Hardingham - Worst kick at the club?

Clearly taking the piss but:

Stanton
Melksham

No better than him. Not even looking at the new kids.

A bit harsh, neither of them are great kicks but both capable of moments of brilliance with their feet that Hardingham has never shown.

Re: #34: Kyle Hardingham - Worst kick at the club?

One thing I've always loved about Hardingham was his courage and ability to fly for the big grabs- That's something you can't be taught.

His kicking can be an issue at times but remember- So did Jobe's... And now he's one of the most reliable midfielders in the league.

Re: #34: Kyle Hardingham - Worst kick at the club?

Gee some of our supporters are hard to please and have short memories. He was playing very well in the first half of the year up until he got injured, would have been regarded as most improved if not for Crameri. Then again maybe im overrating him because he is an improvement on slattery.

Jobe has always had composure and class with his disposal. It was the mechanical element of his kicking that let him down.

Hardingham doesn't have that class. What he does have is what Whomb mentioned. However he lost that in the second half of the year.

The season before last people were talking him up as a forward. Now it's as a back. Things change and it is possible that his form in the second half of the season was more normal than that in the first half.

I hope not, but it is possible.
