I'd take Brad Scott as coach over Wooshka.
He ticks all boxes including the one that says he plays Kane Turner every week.

Woke up to the goal-post 'controversy' and all I can really say is that it sums up the modern game and the AFL as a brand pretty perfectly for mine.
Also realised that I really only care about last nights result in a detached way. There's clearly something deeply, culturally 'wrong' (wrong as in it has a negative effect on building teams, preparing for and winning football games) at the club right now and while it will be interesting to see if and how its tried to be fixed', I really can't see where it's going to start.
Dropping the usual suspects on gameday doesn't change a culture that clearly isn't able to get a team ready to play (see most of our 1st quarters, and the start of seasons), and it really doesn't seem that we have enough of the type of player/personality in the group who will put their hand up and both say and demonstrate the application, dedication and playing style needed to win important (finals) games of football. We will continue to win games here and there because we have some talent on the list and from time to time they'll click together, but I can't see this group achieving success together, and I also worry that the younger guys get inculcated with the same attitudes as a lot of the senior guys, meaning that they now perceive this as 'good enough'.
Does a lot of it still stem from the 'saga'? Did the senior guys who missed a year and got dragged through the mud realise that the game is fleeting and can be taken away at any moment, so just enjoy it? Did they glimpse life away from footy and understand there's more out there, just being fixated on training and playing is a waste? Neither of things are wrong, but they aren't conducive to a winning environment. I won't question Heppell's leadership (at least he tried to get things going last night), I won't question the endeavor of most at the contest (we have some lazy players, that's pretty much expected to a degree), and genuinely believe that from siren-to-siren the playing group wants to win. After the siren and during the week? I think we've established a set a culture that is professional and hard working, but doesn't have that mind-set of continual challenge and improvement. They guys turn up, they train 'hard', but the ruthlessness and desire that is needed for more than 2 hours each week in order to become a champion team instead of just good, solid proffesionals just doesn't appear to be there. Until you can instill that mindset into a playing group, along with a game-plan or instructions that best utilise the skills available, we are going to keep being a mediocre club who has to hope the umps call technically correct frees in order to have a chance....
That would be Kayne Turner. Show some respect. He ticks all boxes including the one that says he plays Kane Turner every week.
I would hope the umpires who officiated our game get dropped for next week, that non call at the end is inexcusable. It’s your job to know the rules there was no grey area or lack of vision to get in the way.
Bring back Goddard. For all his faults he has standards well above what this mob are dishing up and would actually hold people to account who need to improve. Heppell doesn't have that in him. Hardest part of leadership is doing what's needed over being liked.
Heathcote. Didn't feel like shitting my pants.Engadine?
I miss 1997.Heathcote. Didn't feel like shitting my pants.
I dunno, I'd laugh about a club captain doing something so unbelievably stupid. You know what I find amazing.
Probably none of the vitriol I've just read though gets posted if we get that dumb free kick as it is all replaced with laughing at Sydney getting what they deserve and we spend all week arguing about about Hams great contribution and querying whether we can change a winning combination.
Literally nothing about the performance would have changed.
It's why we have to lose and why I watch games hoping the opposition wins.
The club will act if the fans vote with their feet.
You know what I find amazing?
Probably none of the vitriol I've just read though gets posted if we get that dumb free kick. It would have been replaced with laughing at Sydney getting what "it deserved" (for being good and embarrassing us for the 15 years we have been a dogs breakfast).
We would then spend all week arguing about about Ham's great contribution and querying whether we can change a winning combination.
Literally nothing about the performance would have changed.
It's why we have to lose and why I watch games hoping the opposition wins.
The club will act if the fans vote with their feet. Last year we spent all year clinging to this idea that we found our "real selves" (funnily enough it is the real self we have never displaye dnaturally) and we couldn't possible learn anything about the kids on our list while finals were still a shot.
We reap what we sow and I genuinely believe it includes the injuries. It's like clockwork, the players we need always end up injured largely in circumstances where they were never part of the original plan anyway).
Did you miss the bit where most people posting about the clear umpire error started off with “ we didn’t deserve to win anyway”?
All true enough, did think Redman was excellent in the air however.

It's like clockwork, the players we need always end up injured largely in circumstances where they didn't start out as injured but where they were never part of the original plan anyway. Edit: and then conveniently we are "hamstrung" by injury. The original planning speaks for itself, it always does.
I like the cut of their jib. Do you know any of them that can coach? You don’t like pelicans, do you?
Pelicans are actually quite an admirable bird - not sticking their beaks in where they shouldn’t be, knowing just how big those saggy pointy bastards are. God bless ‘em.

I think that's part of the deeper problem. Heppell does what 'needs to be done', he sets and maintains a very good standard and I'm sure that at training he ensures everyone is working and involved. He attempts to lead by example on the field, he seems to provide support for the entire playing group. These are all traits of a very good leader. What he doesn't have, and what no-one else at the club really seems to have, is the mentality that there's always "one more stair to climb". They can't see the next challenge and work towards it.
That's not on Heppell's leadership (although he could in theory help change it), it runs much deeper through the playing group, coaching staff and club as a whole
The feel of the game clause.Did you miss the bit where most people posting about the clear umpire error started off with “ we didn’t deserve to win anyway”?
Engadine?
I stopped reading after this, and it is why i dont give any thing you wrote thereafter any credibility, regardless of its validity. It's why we have to lose and why I watch games hoping the opposition wins.
For 40 years there has been the essendon rule book and the rest of the leagues . we get pinged for every illegal act and legal acts and suspended for anything they can suspend for. The umps have never made an incorrect call against us and the umpire association and the afl seem to be able to continually justify the **** they serve up. The umpires new what rampke was doing was illegal and told him to get down. Free kick then and there. Hopefully next time bellchambrrs tackles someone high the umpires let us know to take the arms away from the neck and it can be play on and no free kick. I'm pretty done with afl for this season again. Won't be watching any more games. The team I can tolerate the umpiring I just can't stomach anymore. This club won't go the afl or the umpires. We just sit back and take this **** well after week. Make a stand worsfold say something do something. Unfortunately worsfold is as proactive as a game day coach as he is at questioning the system. Eddie would open how far mouth for the pies. We are spineless. Someone ******* do something it's past the point of ridiculousness.
