Spot on.

I’m sick of the “win a final” desperation. Like winning any final that isn’t the grand final actually means something. Our focus should be on developing a system that’s physical and relentless. The success is the byproduct of executing well for long enough, not because it was your goal was to be playing in the semis.

If Joe doesn’t want to be part of a building a physical and relentless team so be it. Bring in someone who does.
You try to win a flag every year. Why not next year? Why not 2021? Look what injuries did in 2019. Richmond were pond scum when 3 or 4 of their best 12 went down. Got them all back except for Rance and looked like a different side. With 18 teams, sides don’t have depth. We were without Daniher and Smith most of the year, big Chunks without Hooker, Hurley and Bellchambers, Fantasia was in and out, Heppell was on one leg, etc etc. If we have a good run with injuries, and others don’t, anything is possible in this comp right at this moment. Geelong certainly benefited from a good run, and were found out when they came up against a full strength Richmond. Have some faith, that’s what makes footy fun.

Another pair of 18 year old top 10 draft picks pushing each other along will more than make up for losing Joe.

This would be soo counterintuitive given our list demographic and the strategy Disco has put in place to get us to this point.
Having teenagers on the field learning to play key roles, while the rest of the list is out to win each game is the almost like assembling a half pregnant list.

Whether we agree the list is capable or not is subjective and a different conversation.
The reality is the list is poised to strike right now, we need to be ALL IN on this or NOT IN at all.

In other words, if we trade Daniher, then push the hard reset button and trade Hooker, Hurley and Zaka (actually, trade zaka regardless) too.
We cant afford half measures any more..

Considering one of his best mates from football is Ben Stratton, you must be some kind of a dick yourself.

Joe and Ben best mates, Stratton pinches Raz, both Joe and Raz wanted to go....hmm..fallout? Tom? Sam? Jon? Menzies? There’s a story here

It occurs to me that the club might have the support of Joey's parents in trying to hold him to his contract and stay at Essendon.

It could be they want him to stay in Melbourne (where I imagine they live?) to help provide support and guidance.

There’s nothing wrong with being pragmatic, you can enjoy the ride without deluding yourself into thinking we are a genuine chance. Gold Coast too will be aiming to win the flag next year, even though we all know it’s not going to happen.

The platform is almost there for this squad. On paper all it lacks is an inside bull, good quality ruckmen, and Joe firing.
The gameplan is fine. With those three elements, the rest will work itself out.
We are honestly that close imo. SPP will be fine as he plays a role. The ruckman needs to win 60/40 contests. Not sure who could be available. Ryder would have been perfect.

Don’t think we’re getting SPP

When you look at our list like tht, SPP for one of our second rounders I would be fine with. Hit the draft with the rest of our hand and go all in.

damn paywall.

There’s absolutely no detail in the article, it’s just clickbait methinks

Essendon’s players are lobbying the club to hold Joe Daniher to his contract.

Daniher last week confirmed months of speculation by requesting a trade to Sydney, despite having a year to run on his Bomber deal.

The key forward has left for an overseas holiday having triggered a fortnight of tense negotiations between the Dons and the Swans.

But Daniher’s Essendon teammates aren’t taking the news lying down, with several urging club chiefs to do everything in their power to keep Daniher.

The collective plea comes after skipper Dyson Heppell had breakfast on Thursday morning with Orazio Fantasia in what was said to be a final attempt to keep Fantasia in red and black.

By lunchtime, Fantasia had told Essendon he was staying.

Fantasia’s decision to turn his back on Port Adelaide and stay put is seen as unrelated, but he and Daniher were both in Essendon’s leadership group last season.

Fantasia’s current Essendon contract doesn’t expire until the end of 2021.

Essendon and Sydney have met three times to negotiate over Daniher’s future, but Dons list manager Adrian Dodoro this morning gave the strongest sign yet his club wouldn’t let Daniher leave for the Swans.

Dodoro said the 2017 All-Australian, who has battled a complex groin injury for most of the past two and a half years, was currently irreplaceable.

“Our position hasn’t changed. We’re really clear, we don’t think this draft will replace a guy of Joey’s ilk — 203cm, gun key forward, they’re just so hard to find,” Dodoro told the Connors Sports Management Breakfast.

“We, as recruiters and list managers, look at the quality of what’s in the actual draft coming up. It’s about replacing a key forward and at this point he’s irreplaceable for us.

“It’s like owning a house, people knock on your door and say they want to buy your house — it’s up to them to tell us what they’ll pay for it.”

Dodoro was confident Daniher could recapture his best form for the Bombers should be made to stay like Tim Kelly did at Geelong 12 months ago.

“He’s so highly valued … once we get over this period we think there’s no reason why Joey can’t fall back in love with the club,” he said.

Dodoro added he had some nervous moments before Fantasia decided against a move to Port Adelaide, and described debate over inquiries over Collingwood’s Mason Cox as “all fun and games”.

Asked if Essendon had any other trade moves planned, he said: “If there’s any good ruckmen out there we’d like to talk to them, there’s no doubt about that.”

Yep, get your head around this piece of perfect trade week “journalism”

That's only because there was a pic of them at a cafe posted online yesterday morning, old news.

And who knows the context of the meeting. Raz could’ve already had his mind made up and just wanted Hepp’s view on how players may feel about it i.e no resentment etc
