Pffffttttt... We were a good run with injuries away from making top 4. We’ll be right. How old was Joel Selwood when he played in a flag? Cyril? Two hungry 18 years olds with identifiable talent beats a 203 cm key forward sitting in the coaches box.

If Sydney were happy with pick 9 for Papley then they could just do that deal. 5 and 9 for them in this draft before 2 academy guns next year is a nice little rebuild. Or if 5 and 9 is accepted by us for Joe then they get what they want. Its a win win for them to just do the Papley trade now.

Agreed although i wonder if they're facing a backlash from supporters who don't want him to leave and should be made to play out his contract. Ironically the same fans who are criticizing Essendon for not letting Joe walk for unders.
 
Will Joe do an Orazio and stay? Would be a miracle considering he is probably looking for a skateboard around Manly but time will tell

FWIW, i can't see Syd paying overs at this stage.

If I was Sydney, I would let Bombers keep him for another year & see how the OP is travelling. If he is looking good, get him as a free agent and throw everything at him. If the injury doesn't respond they have lost nothing.

Will Joe be received well at Essendon and the supporters knowing he is playing out his contract?
 
Seems to me Tom Harley has made Joe a promise he cant keep.
He probably thought that he was being clever and wooing Joe when his chips were down, and get him cheap.
Then Joe fell for it, and now Harley has to pay more than Sydney should pay considering JD is surplus to their requirements.
 
It's embarrassing for Sydney to seduce a player and not deliver, we were ten minutes away from looking like that ourselves last year with Dylan. They can go on about free agency all the want but like Adelaide did with Dangerfield we can threaten to match and force them to give us better than what we would get from the compo.

JD is not going to get to the Swans via the draft, Gold Coast should be stripped of all future help if they let a player like him pass them in a pre season draft.... and no chance of that in a national draft considering their academy guns will be bid on.
