At least Joe should be happy in Brisbane, and they have a great medical team, so there's a better chance they'll get his body right. Best forward we've had since Lloyd, though, so it's a shame things didn't work out.

If his last game was the hawks game I'd still be devastated that hes leaving but the rest of his 2020 season softened the blow. Loved the guy and no ill will towards him but I reckon theres a lot of truth to Goddards comments re his attitude, all the natural ability but maybe not the drive to do rehab properly/improve on his weaknesses.

I wish him no ill will.
But doesn't mean I have to wish him any success either.

He's an absolute joy to watch when up and running. The best parts of being an Essendon fan the last 6-7 years I daresay have been majority Joe-related.
But it is what it is. Having 12 months to come to terms with it definitely has softened the blow.

Sadly a lot of the rest have been Saad or McKenna related.

As much as we now have a chance to do a reset due to compensation from the departures it does leave a massive "what if" thing buzzing around in the back of the mind.

The 'excitement' has gone from our team for sure (outside of probably Tippa and Stringer).

Even though we were a team that didn't achieve anything significant - we were an exciting team to watch.
And there's something to be said for that.
I've posted this a few times over the years - but you spend your entire life barracking for the same club, and for the high majority of that time, that team will not be successful in terms of winning premierships, making grand finals etc...
For us, the supporters - we want to be entertained. Footy should be something to be enjoyed, take your mind off things.
Winning does that. But team style can do that too. Players can do that too.
Daniher was one of those guys. He was just simply so enjoyable to watch. Heck, we didn't achieve anything significant in his time here, yet we all have so many fond memories of him.

That's why I think we will all remember that performance vs Hawthorn this year for quite a while. That felt like more than just 1 win for a lot of us.

I'm just exhausted by it all. Glad it's over and glad we got pick 7. It's the right move for all involved but it'll still hurt seeing him play in another jumper.
^^This in spades.

This rings true from a whole club perspective including the playing group. Sure going to hurt if he gets back to his best, but club is bigger than the player.

Hawks moved on fine from Buddy in the end.

yeah **** of Joe we don't need blokes like you at our great club and maybe if you get your fat head out of your arse you may be a help to Brisbane..lets hope not...!!!

I was feeling happy about pick 7 until I watched the damn highlights on the AFL article. **** he's amazing when he's on.

In the end I'm still ok with everything. He's such a generational player that I understand trying to turn him around and not trading him last year.

However these days system is everything. We were not in a position to be able to take advantage of him and his personality weaknesses with our general sporadic work ethic and lack of system (or system that's ingrained).

Going forward I just hope we build a system that can plug the pieces in and we chug along. At that point I hope we're lucky enough to have a player as talented as Joey come along and be one of the guys with license to do what they want in our system and take full advantage.

Devoed its finally happened but kind of relieved it's over.

I'll still be following his career rather closely and wish him the best...
I certainly won't be wishing him the best. He's lost my respect. To leave without repaying the club after the time, effort in his recovery and big unfulfilled last contract shows his lack of character.
