I think the most frustrating thing is that he was here for eight years and we only got one season from him with clear air.

2013-2016 were all saga related, 2018-now have been famously injured-hampered.

2017 was really the only normal year he had at the club where he was also injury free, and it broke the scoville index.

I wasn't even mildly convinced we would turn things around and persuade him to stay when we kept him last year. But I was hoping he would get fit and be able to play weekly so we could at least get something close to 2017 again. A half of football falls fairly short of that aim, but it was fun nonetheless.

Will Joey get booed? ...because booing Saady is a given.

Think it depends a bit - he comes out next season & lights the comp up, I can see a red & black crowd wont be real happy about that. Pick7 continues to struggle get on the field & only plays against Essendon a couple more times, I think most would take it easy on him.

But, not being a booer myself, I don't pretend to fully understand their psyche.

Part of me hopes we have the foresight not to boo Joey. I'd like his kids to love Essendon.

Saad I don't give a shit about. He's a mercenary.

I’ve mentioned before it leaves a bitter taste after club was patient for 3 years but I still cant imagine booing him.

Genuinely think he wanted to leave the state, not just chasing money. It’d be hard to see him have success and not think ‘if only’ but I’d feel sorry for him if his injury flared up again and wrecked his career, especially the impact on his mental health with being at a new club and trying to fit in.

I was feeling happy about pick 7 until I watched the damn highlights on the AFL article. fu** he's amazing when he's on.

In the end I'm still ok with everything. He's such a generational player that I understand trying to turn him around and not trading him last year.

However these days system is everything. We were not in a position to be able to take advantage of him and his personality weaknesses with our general sporadic work ethic and lack of system (or system that's ingrained).

Going forward I just hope we build a system that can plug the pieces in and we chug along. At that point I hope we're lucky enough to have a player as talented as Joey come along and be one of the guys with license to do what they want in our system and take full advantage.
I loved him too but let’s be honest... he had one good year and could break down again at any moment. Brisbane can afford the risk, we probably can’t. We can cash in our chips now and hopefully end up with a player who can take the field most weeks and play some sort of meaningful role.

I hope not. Joey by all reports had no problem with the club personally and just needed a fresh start after all the injuries and needed to get out of the bubble of melbourne. I can understand that and wish him all the best.

Saad can get stuffed though haha

I certainly won't be wishing him the best. He's lost my respect. To leave without repaying the club after the time, effort in his recovery and big unfulfilled last contract shows his lack of character.

Ultimately I agree. Maybe it makes me small minded and petty, I dunno... but I think it all says a bit about him. Anyway, it’s just footy.

How much responsibility does he need to take, though?

By all reports (and evidence), he wasn't the most driven or professional of athletes.

He gave the club amply opportunity to get a repayment last season. the club, frankly with the support of many of its fans, blew it

It's pretty simple actually:
player does a thing
does he play for your team?
no
did he previously play for your team?
yes
did the club get rid of him, or did he seek greener pastures?
HE LEFT

booooooooo, amplify based on how high profile/important the player was
