The first thing I thought when I watched that AFL get excited video was oh shit, we have lost a gun, it hurts!.. but as it went along my mood changed...

I started to see that slight look of dread on his face after he'd taken a big mark, he knows the kick comes next and he's odds on to miss it, then I kept thinking of how that felt as a fan knowing your gun fwd can't be relied on to kick a goal when you need it.

Then it made me think, he actually never wanted to get better at it, save for that season with Lloyd all we ever saw was him rush to go round the corner or play on to take away the set shot pressure. Took the easy way out at at possible juncture.

At the end of the day we have lost a freak marking player whose end result often hurt us more than it should, and the worst part is it probably only takes dedication and hard work to get better at it. Alas, it's not his go, he'd rather be in the school yard doing kick to kick so he can take hangs.

Here's hoping we can find a dedicated forward, moving forward who cares about his craft and puts the time Into kicking goals, if he can take a hang it's a bonus, not the other way around.

Best of luck Joe, living the good life up there and sitting on people's heads, let's hope another club that dosent have your family name puts up with your foibles as long as we did...

Well said Howard.

His biggest battle since 2018 has been with mental demons.

For whatever reason he decided 14 months ago he couldn't do it at Essendon.

Whether that was a reality is something we'll never know but the warning shot had been fired.

I'm backing him to get to a level hes hasn't been to before and I'm also quite confident he's too weak to get there at Essendon.

Yeh there's little doubt our environment didn't help , but ultimately it's a two way street, I reckon he gave up on the kicking thing a while back, perhaps the layoff made it worse. I will be Interested to see if the kid gloves come out up there or if he is treated with the same standards as everyone else. It was probably the main issue down here, I reckon there were always different rules for Joe.

Daniher becoming a reliable set shot at Brisbane is probably the only thing that would annoy me. Him staying fit and having team success wouldn't bother me too much.

Hey all, just wanted to say I think you have done well out of an each way bet 12 months ago. For what it's worth I was a no on Joe but will embrace him now, look forward to future finals action between us to see who won this one.
Embrace him. He's one of the most entertaining players in the league and a pure joy to watch when he's on. Takes contested pack marks for fun and kicks 60m drop punts and it will completely demoralise your opponent. But he is also prone to missing goals from 10-45m out from any angle so you've gotta take the good with the bad. I reckon you would've beaten Geelong if you had him, he's a big game player. Has kicked 4 goals in both finals played and dominated ANZAC day a coupla times.

He rejected the idea that mooted cultural issues at Tullamarine had shaped his decision to depart the Bombers.

"I've had a fantastic relationship with the Essendon Football Club. Not just in my playing days but as a supporter growing up. They've been incredibly supportive of me for a very long period of time," Daniher said in Brisbane.

"I spoke with the coach and the CEO after it was all done and dusted and got their full support. They understood why I needed a fresh start, needed a change. I can't thank them enough. There's a lot of people there that I'll continue to have relationships with. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Essendon Football Club."

Daniher played four matches for the Bombers late in the season, suggesting that he would have liked to have played more. He said that limitations of training caused by the special circumstances of a coronavirus-shaped season hadn't helped his cause.

"It has been challenging from an on-field perspective. As a footballer, all you want to do is go out and play and have a lot of fun and enjoyment playing. I've been starved of that in the last few years. From my point of view I'm really excited," Daniher said.

"I'm in a really good space physically. I think this year I was able to get a lot of work in. There were certainly challenges given the restrictions in the AFL landscape."
