Reckon he could have played more this season but didn’t. Remember Woosha saying something like ‘he’ll tell us when he’s ready”.

Just like when you do a knee or have repeated calf tears, Getting over an injury mentally can take awhile as well.

Considering he was pretty much playing for his career (contract length, $$ wise) would be understandable if he held himself back a little bit. Dont blame him.

Seeing him in those colours makes me feel dead inside.

Eh its just another player really. He's barely been on the field for us these past 3 years so its not like he's burned into my mind as Essendon. His name is, him in the jumper is not.

Hell once you see Isaac Smith in Cats colours that breaks any reality of seeing certain players in other colours.

I broke my right leg twice in one year. Took me a heap of rehab to get it right, but I remember the hardest part was trusting that it would do what I needed it to, let alone hold my weight. The mental side is massive. It'd be just as bad if not worse for a professional sportsperson I would imagine.

Yeah, I broke my thumb last year in March and it took until March this year to feel "normal"(though misdiagnosed and continued to use it so didn't help).

Also tore my calf a few years ago, first soft tissue I'd ever done. Took me like two and a half months to trust it.
I know athletes have the best care but their injuries are also much more severe and they have to perform at a higher level. The mental side would be huge because you also have your footballing life depending on things, huge mental Pressure

You and Runk are at the smart end of the scale. I had a tear in my meniscus, taped it up for finals 3 weeks later.

I wish I could say that was when I learned to listen to my body.

I remember pulling both hamstrings fairly badly in a footy match a couple of days before the school state level (Vic) athletics meet. I was meant to be in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. I tried to pull out of them all but the teachers made me still compete in the relay. Can’t imagine that happening these days.

I ran the back straight. My memory seems to think I still ran fairly well but distinctly remember the look on the guys waiting for the baton, not just my team. They all looked shocked and surprised at the dude running with (what felt like) a grimace from hell and tears streaming down my face.

Despite the pain even at the time I thought their reaction was funny. So much so that I started to laugh in combination with everything else and barely got the baton to the next guy.

Do you think another reason he might of left is because our midfield just doesn't get the ball to the forward line enough over four quarters, and or delivery has been quite poor for some time.

Suoer gutted we didn't at least get a season out of Joe after getting him right. Whatever the real reason behind his exit, I hope he plays plenty of footy. Will always feel a bit dirty that we didnt see his best again in red and black.

Many people tend to forget that before he got injured he was our clubs record holder for consecutive games. Over 80 if I am not mistaken.

At least he played 100 games for us and if years down the track has a little un he has the option for playing for the club as well.

Yeah, as much as I’d like that to be the reason, that wasn’t it.

He rejected the idea that mooted cultural issues at Tullamarine had shaped his decision to depart the Bombers.

"I've had a fantastic relationship with the Essendon Football Club. Not just in my playing days but as a supporter growing up. They've been incredibly supportive of me for a very long period of time," Daniher said in Brisbane.

"I spoke with the coach and the CEO after it was all done and dusted and got their full support. They understood why I needed a fresh start, needed a change. I can't thank them enough. There's a lot of people there that I'll continue to have relationships with. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Essendon Football Club."

Daniher played four matches for the Bombers late in the season, suggesting that he would have liked to have played more. He said that limitations of training caused by the special circumstances of a coronavirus-shaped season hadn't helped his cause.

"It has been challenging from an on-field perspective. As a footballer, all you want to do is go out and play and have a lot of fun and enjoyment playing. I've been starved of that in the last few years. From my point of view I'm really excited," Daniher said.

"I'm in a really good space physically. I think this year I was able to get a lot of work in. There were certainly challenges given the restrictions in the AFL landscape."

Challenging from an onfield perspective. Says it there. Chasing a flag.

Just like T Lynch or perhaps even J Cameron.

I think this fella will cop the most flack from the Essendon crowd, that I've seen towards any player in my time. I won't blame them either.
Some of the stuff I've seen written about him on Blitz and social media is downright disgusting and pathetic, so it wouldn't surprise me.

But didn’t want to repay the faith, time and money Essendon had invested into him.

Also, media should note that Daniher is saying he’s physically right to go and that he’s had a good year preparing.

Essendon’s medical team got him right. At a great cost. I hate reading articles which say “Brisbane’s medical team will get him on the park”...he’s already on the park.
