NORTH Melbourne tall forward Lachie Hansen's dissatisfaction with the Roos' contact offer has brought his name to the fore during the Gillett AFL Trade Period, which began at Etihad Stadium on Monday.

Damian Barrett said on Gillett AFL Trade Radio that there has been talk surrounding Hansen since the end of the season.

"He's out of contract," Barrett said. "There is an offer in front of him from North Melbourne, but it's not substantial and it's one that he's wavering on.

"As these meetings go on between clubs today, his name will be bounced around.

"I won't say he's being shopped around, but clubs are certainly aware that if they want Lachie Hansen he's there to get."

Hansen's standing rose in 2012 despite the fact that he was unable to break into the team until the match against Adelaide in round 13.

The 24-year-old combined with fellow tall forwards Drew Petrie and Robbie Tarrant to form a potent attacking combination during the second half of the season.

Hansen kicked 20 goals during the final 12 games, including a haul of four against Carlton in round 16, but he had a poor match during the heavy loss to West Coast in North's elimination final.

Thoughts?

if he doesn't wanna stay then the club has to try and get the best trade for him. He played first half in the 2's and yes when he played in the seniors he improved. Lachie should worry about being consistently good and the money will come.

If he goes. I would rather a high draft pick rather than an average player and average pick.

I don't know why he would leave.

I think he wants to stay, it's just that the contract offer is not as much as he wants. So it appears his manager is using this period to get a market value on Lach and then ask the NMFC to match that if indeed it is more than what he is currently being offered. What happens from that point will be interesting.

2 20 goal season in 6 years. He is not our answer once Petrie goes - ok when he has the 2nd or 3rd best defender on him. He is not the player we thought he would be after taking him at 3.
Yep - massive disappointment. His best this year is very good but very rare. Not unhappy if we can trade him at all!

20 goals but played half the year. Would have been 40 at that rate..
Get rid of...

Seriously, if we let Hansen go, on top of Hamish and Pedo, we are in a spot of bother.

14 for Caddy is more than reasonable. Just throwing in Hansen as steak knives is ridiculous. He may not become what YOU hoped he would. But so what, he is still worth more than that. He is worth heaps more than that if McIntosh, Pedersen, Delaney, Edwards and Warren all get moved on as well.

We suddenly go from plenty of forward marking options, to praying that Daw and Black are ready. Whilst having zero depth.

Seriously - Hansen has been a disappointment. Showed a bit this year but inconsistent. Trade him in a heartbeat if we could do a deal.
Trade him for what? Pick 50? Pick 40?

I don't understand this from Hansen. He's been hugely disappointing since being drafted. If he wants the money, sign a one year deal, play an entire year of good football (something he's never done) and then allow the money offers to flow at the end of 2013.
