Could Logan Mcdonald be better than Jack Riewoldt for example

I'll say yes

if mcdonald was with any other team doing what he's done so far with us, there'd be people on this board drooling over him, and wishing we could draft players like him
he's 21, and yet to play 50 games ...
you can argue the toss over the definition of "superstar" but this bloke is going to be an outstanding forward

Probably.
I will bow out here as you unlike most here get what I was trying to say. Was not potting the kid at all just giving an opinion to you on your appraisal of him and then of course enter stage left people who have no ****ing Idea how to read the context of a post before spewing their diatribe and taking offence because their fantasy and fanboy ideas of a player has been questioned. Then you have the dills that want to get their head in a conversation or discussion just for the chance to give people the perception they hold some relevance in their holier than thou ignorant life. No wonder this Board is known as the dumbest across the whole forum. Most should be watching Bocce or playing coits as that's where most of their opinions come from.

i'm certainly not potting your caution on mcdonald ...
and mostly as a swans supporter i've erred on the side of, well, i spose pessimism
but with this young swans group i'm trying to be glass half full, and i've seen plenty over the past few years to feel justified
mcdonald sits alongside gulden, warner, blakey, mcinerney, florent, sheldrick and now mclean, and a few others, as part of what i see as potentially a premiership core

and i don't think i'm being unrealistic

You are not Toad.

No further comment from me but you are one of few here that see the context of a post and take it for what it is.

pretty easy to get disillusioned and discouraged by some of the stuff posted on here ... mostly it's not worth engaging, which is why i'm likely to be staying away for most of the off-season
but i am very much looking forward to next season

Probably.

Enjoy the passion Wolfgang West and it’s clearly a good discussion point. I think we are all wanting Logan to succeed, what he will need is time. We have all summer for Bocce and Jack High bowls!! No harm, no foul, play on!

Bro, you cracked the shits because other people used some hyperbole. Maybe cool it on whining about people not being able tp read context.

At present time, I don’t see a superstar. He very often doesn’t read the play correctly and goes missing for huge stretches during games. This isn’t really getting better, but it should be in his third season. He also doesn’t really kick enough goals. The average can be excused for such a young player, but he hasn’t shown that he can kick a big bag at all. Not even once. In no way does he look ready to assume the focal point Buddy role.

So I actually think he’s behind where we hoped he’d be at this stage of his development. I don’t really understand why people have such massive expectations of him. So far, he’s tracking to be a relatively solid forward but not someone you can rely on for bulk goals or who’ll win you a premiership. I hope I’m wrong.

That’s a massive call dee wiz

Over 300 games

nearly 800 goals
3 time all aus

3 time Coleman

3 time premiership player

12 time leading club goal kicker

Few bnf

That would be amazing

agree it's a big call, But kind of reminds me a bit of Jack

he's 21 ... most of his senior playing time has been in the vast shadow of franklin
he is now trying to fit into a forward set-up that features three big marking forwards, plus heeney and hayward
he and the team are yet to work out if he's a key marking target or a mobile, roaming nick riewoldt type
this entire season, for mcdonald and the team generally, has been one of upheaval, flying by the seat of their pants as they adjust to one change after another
i cannot understand the negativity
he shows great football smarts, he's a team player, has a great work ethic and a physique and aerobic capacity you can clearly see are building
how many other 21yo key forwards, barely three years into their careers, dominate their teams, let alone their opponents?
his limited highlights to date show genuine class
give him three more years, see how he's tracking then ... and he'll be only 24!

Well putting it in here nice and early.

Looking at 40 plus goals next year if not hampered by injury. Have at it

He played a lot of the season with Buddy and kicked 30. An entire season as first or second fiddle should see him reach the 40 mark if we’re being serious.

Now, if he falls just short I don’t think the knives should be out, but a full season at almost 2 goals a game would be huge at his age. I want to see 70 between him and McLean, however they get there.

Injury free, that would be a good target for Logan and continue the YoY improvement.

What target do you reckon he would have for himself?

That is all I want. Year on year improvement. 40 plus goals next year would be a decent haul for a 22yo KPF.

No idea what target he would personally have bar "improve my performance in line with club guidelines" and "win premiership"
