Most seem to think that 12 wins will get you into the finals. Especially with our percentage - 11 won't be enough.
Having a look at the draw and trying to work out (based on current teams form and total guess-work) how close we might be able to get.

Kangas (close game that we have to win - should win at G) W
Hawks (at Tassie - could go either way but they're dropping) W
Collingwood (at G) - based on ladder positions the Pies are favourites. L
Port Adelaide (at AAMI) not the side they use to be but close game) W
Melbourne (at G) The dees are flying. L
Sydney ( at SCG) L
St Kilda (at G - close game maybe a 50/50 at best) L
Western Bulldogs (at G - oppermistic but we'll avenge round 1) W
Brisbane (at Telstra Dome) W
Carlton (at Telstra Dome) W
Essendon (at MCG) W
West Coast (at G - might be close but they would be favourites) L

That's 7 wins.
I'm thinking if we drop one of the next two games we are going to miss.

Yup, like I said, its now or never. Put winning games before blooding youngsters for the moment, and concentrate on making the finals. We've done great this year at giving the young blokes a taste, but no need to go over the top. Lets try and make the finals so we can go into our best years with confidence !

It is the youngsters who have shown the improvement and got us to where we are :thumbsu: We cannot drop youngsters now because we MAY play finals, its still unlikely that we will even play in September. The youngsters have played well so if they keep their form up then they'll stay in the 22 and if they drop in form then TW will let others have a go.

We will continue to play them...only 2 more on senior list haven't debuted. So we can't really blood anymore, we will keeps giving games to blokes who deserve their spot and if that means Limbach debuts, then so be it.

We have to and should win our next 2 and if we lose one of them I will be very disappointed.

No no youve got me wrong. Im not saying replace youngsters with old veterans. Rather, replace first year players who have under 6 games experience, with 2-3 year old players: Deledio, Shulz etc. Also, N.Brown is our highest paid player, cant leave him out for a first year player no matter what.

Replace them with who?

IN: Deledio - Richo - Brown - Krakouer
OUT: Meyer - White - Pattison - Foley

We still have Tambling/Polo/Raines in the side, it won't affect us at all IMO. Leave the kids in :thumbsu:

Ummm, this is what I was trying to say? Your ins and outs are the same as mine :s What exactly were you arguing? lol.

You want to replace the kids (1-2 year players with under 6 games) We can't and won't.

Now you say drop Stafford but isn't he experienced

Huh? Im saying I think we should just replace the kids who have under 10 games experience with those who deserve a spot that are in their 2-3rd years. Such as Deledio, Shulz for Meyer, White and/or Pattison. All im saying, and most people would agree, that if Deledio and Brown are available for selection, then they should be in the team. However, for players to come in, some players have to make way. Who makes way? Well, in my opinion, those who are the LEAST (no, this is NOT negative) likely to win us the game. Now, personally id have Deledio, Brown and an in form Krakour, in the team instead of Pattison, Meyer and White - who have been excellent in their first year - but are less likely to win us the game nonetheless. Why cant you guys understand where im coming from ?

You Make perfect sense to me.

We aren't focusing on finals...I would rather see Pattison instead of Gaspar or Stafford at the moment on form.

I would love to see us play finals in 2006...it would be awesome but it is going to be very hard to make it and if we put all our focus into making the finals then we are going backwards again

Realistically I only see another 5 wins for the season, we may pinch one or two, just as we may let one or two slip that we should win. I do think 10 wins will leave us well placed in the draft and have a solid platform for a real rise up the ladder in the next 2-3 years.

Fair call. Would you still think only 5 more wins if we manage to win the next 2 - against Kangas and Hawks?

Id rather Pattison than Gaspar and Stafford as well, but TW wont drop Gaspar I dont think. Whilst we're decently poised, TW has an obligation to field the best side he can. Not saying Gaspar is in our best 22, but in Plough's opinion he might be. I see what youre saying - field the youngest side we can and just hope it's good enough to win games, but if it isn't then its no big deal. I just slightly disagree, Id rather beat all the lower teams at any cost, and perhaps sneak in to the eight. Reason? I think making the finals this year would do the boy's confidence a world of good for the future, knowing that we've improved more than any other struggling team in the last few years. Then you look at the draft, sure, its a good one, but do we really need any more youngsters when we've got about 5-6 people already pushing for a spot in the best 22? Itd probably heighten our chances of success in the future a bit, but I reckon we've just about got all the cattle we need for the next couple of years at least.

Get draft picks out of your heads.

A winning culture is what is needed for a future - not flaming draft picks. We finish 8th (just say) compaired to 10th (just say).. so what? We have to wait another 2 names to be called out.

Look at St.Kilda. They were down the bottom for years. Where are they now?

heading back to where they were, slowly, but the arrow is pointing down.
The clock has ticked over for them, they have missed the bus.
You tend to get that, when you have a super team coached by a a super dud. ;)

I don't want draft picks...I think we are all misunderstanding eachother :p

Finals > Draft Picks any day of the week :thumbsu:

But what I am trying to say is we shouldn't be saying to the kids "Thanks for getting us to 5-5, now go back to Coburg while we fight for a finals spot"

I would like to see the youngsters keep getting played as they are and we should be fine, and if we make the finals that is GREAT and if not, we still learnt and improved a lot in 2006 and we are heading in the right direction

Hmm wouldnt put Williams in the pudgy class really. Pagan would probably sneak his way into it.
Williams has man boobs. Pagan looks like he's lost weight, but then again coaching that rabble would kinda put you off your appetite wouldn't it?

Agree. Our long term goal is to play finals for next year and Beyond. Everyone is right though we gotta win the next 2 games.

out of all games to have richo out hes gonna miss the kangas and hawks, 2 teams where the opposition forward rapes them

this week is must win, we win and we are still around freo,st klida, dogs but we lose and brisbane, port catch up to us

our last 4 games are all winnable and carlton and essedon would still be tanking by then so if it comes to a match against WC for a spot in the eight i'll take it
