WTF is going on here?

Late out two weeks in a row, limps around for 3 quarters and then an apparently pre planned sub?

He’s not even close to fit
No other mids I guess.
Missing 75% of our starting experienced middle at the moment. So guess it was a case of what else do you do.

Actually think we should insert Heppell into the rotation and have another back in (Baldwin/Montgomerie)

People are being a bit harsh he’s had a good year to date and obviously wasn’t 100%. That being said I do think his time as a primary midfielder in the side is coming to an end as Hobbs, Caldwell and Tsatas continue to progress.

He cant play anywhere else

He was terrible on the wing this week

Not sure why he played yesterday. Clearly looked underdone
Roos had a lot of mids in and we're struggling with injury. So maybe 75% shiel was better than alternative

Esp with tsatas only just back

Simpkin, greenwood, powell, phillips, wardlaw and sheezel might be young but gave them a lot of rotations

vs. just merrett, caldwell and hobbs...we were struggling with their running as it was

Yeah good point. I understand that logic.

With the benefit of hindsight you’d say we would have been better off bringing in another small forward (Davey/D’Ambrosio) then leaning on Snelling as a midfield rotation.

I guess the counter argument is then what if we suffer another injury in game then there is no one who can step up and play big midfield minutes.

He looks like he was just trying to get through the game though watching him live. And had ice on his foot after he got subbed out. Unnecessary risk with our history of reinjury

Yeah
I hope we're not essingtoning brad
Or he let it have its day against lolnorf as a low risk reminder of what can happen if we allow it.
I think a part of it is he is backing his experienced guys this year as he works the development and giving them a chance to prove they can buy in and play the style he wants . The key factor is what he does at the end of the year and heading into next year. Do the next wave start to get another go and a few of the old brigade get moved sideways.

He put on the agenda when he started
Everyone gets assessed this year.

Hard to read just now, but I get why you play experience in the afl, youth in the vfl and do so until one forces your hand on the other.

Come years end, then you know what you've got moving fwd.

Agree.
If he's out this week, and no real depth in afl to bring in, move some magnets around and get hepp in as a rotation....give stringer and perkins more time as well

Being 7-5 probably helps the senior guys as well. Could be a slightly different story if we where 3-9 . Anyway Shiel was a mistake this week but it is not a bad thing making the young blokes earn their stripes to a degree.

Yep
And not that we had a young bloke who'd come in as a mid
3 injuries and tsatas just back is a bit to cover.

Who was he even holding out of the side? Davey with his sore shoulder, or Walla with his poor form? Tsatas, who played 3/4 in the VFL as his first ever game for the club? Munkara, who was managed from the VFL last week? Or perhaps Wanganeen?

It's slim pickings atm...

Slightly disappointed we didnt open the 2nd spot up and take a mid in the msd

Absolute worst case you give a kid a chance for 6m. Even if its just working their butt off in the vfl side.

The only real option could have been Monty in and maybe Hep into the wing rotation and Snelling / Perkins midfield. Not ideal but as Dylan said himself on channel 9 they shouldn't have tried to go so early to get back so maybe they had to invent something.

I keep saying we're still one mid short (hopefully that's what Martin or Perkins becomes, but there should be a seat warmer between now and when they're ready for it).

That said, it's somewhat unusual to have so many injuries to the same part of the field at once (Parish, Setterfield, Shiel, Tsatas).
