Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [C7/J.Ralph] LDU declares he wants to be a NM player for life; '24 SBM - congrats LDU

He was babbling on (obviously had a beer or two) about how much he loves playing with those guys, about winning a flag with them and how all this shit will be worth it when we do, when he spoke after winning the Syd.

All we have to do is not take away his reasons to believe in that and he'll stay.

If LDU wins a flag with us that will mean more to him than any amount of extra cash, especially as he'll be getting a seven figure sum off us every year he plays for North anyway. If he stays he has the chance of greatness, footy immortality and to have his name alongside the like of Malcolm Blight, Wayne Carey, Keith Greg, Glenn Archer and other football legends.

He's gonna be a multi millionaire anyway.

“My mail is...”: What Davies-Uniacke needs to see from Roos before recommitting

North Melbourne’s Luke Davies-Uniacke is set to be one of the hottest free agents available next off-season.

While the 25-year-old has suggested he wants to remain at Arden Street, North Melbourne list manager Brady Rawlings admitted that early discussions about extending his deal have been halted for the moment.

Rawlings says that the Roos are keen on picking up those talks again but are waiting for the player and his management to sit down and decide his next move.

“We obviously have had discussions for a while, he’s obviously a great player for us and he’s a Kanga through and through,” Rawlings said on AFL Trade Radio.

“But it probably isn’t at a stage where he’s quite ready to chat (about getting the deal done).

“Hopefully we can pick up those discussions again … we’d love to sign him away, but we’re dictated by his timeline there.”

SEN regular and Nine’s Tom Morris thinks that Davies-Uniacke was smart to put a halt on talks given how much money he could potentially earn next off-season, boosting up his value at North Melbourne or moving elsewhere on a huge deal.

Morris also believes that Davies-Uniacke is wanting to see some serious on-field improvement at North before putting pen to paper.

“They’ll be desperate to re-sign him,” Morris told The Trade Feed.

“But I think LDU is in a position now where he can command massive cash from clubs such as St Kilda, Essendon and whoever else has money.

“But my view is, and my mail is that he needs to see improvement from North Melbourne.

“He's not going to re-sign long-term if he feels like the club's going backwards or stagnating, which is fair enough, isn't it?”

Davies-Uniacke has won just 21 of his 108 career AFL games to date.

Gun player not re-signing yet with a year still to run on his contract because his team is dogshit. Big if true

Since joining the club LDU has renewed his 2 extensions in the off season and it's his/managers preferred m.o which he has also aluded to as recently as this year. First renewal March 2018 second renewal December 2022.

Is probably one of the superior restricted free agent's next year, so until he re-signs, the speculation, theories, and click bait articles will continue to grow
Also because he plays for North. If it were Carlton in our situation, you wouldn't see a quarter of the speculation

Well he’s part of the problem then . I’ve seen him put some stinky games too .

Lol at Bombers or the Saints. 2 lists going absolutely nowhere but mediocre, as is their way.

The last two games of the season were utterly soul-destroying cr@p. I'll give him that. But for the 2 months before, didn't we show sustained, genuine improvement? It felt like that to most of the supporter base. Did Luke not feel that on the ground? So, there are two scenarios here:
1. He is actually a little bit over it and leaving
2. His agent is maximising the return by pumping out this bullshit
I desperately want it to be 2, but I've never felt confident with LDU re-contracting long term. Other players have proactively committed to rebuilding the club together. I understand that he has a year to run on his contract and there is no rush, but the longer it goes on, the more I go into self-protection mode where I pretend to not give a sh1t.
