A League 2010/11 Crowd Figures

With the amount of Advertising that Soccer does you would think that Soccer crowds would be a bit higher...

You've either been here 5 minutes or you're a troll.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

The total lack of promotion and lack of advertising for the A-League has been one of the fans' biggest bugbears all season ...

Our crowd would have been higher if the Gold Coast had any away fans. There was a kid in a Sydney FC shirt, Mariners Shirt and AU away kit, and a few adults here and there.

Ah yes these two tiny twin ladys that turn up to every Victory match held at Etihad for the last 2 years. One wears her Sydney FC gear and the other her Central Coast gear. Hat, Scarfs, Strips and they even have there Teddy Bears to match. Havnt seen them at AAMI Park though.

I'm in Melbourne with a few mates in a couple of weeks, with the football Brisbane are playing we will definitely head along to AAMI Park for the Victory vs Brisbane match, draped in our AU gear of course.

Ironically given Perths bad form, this is the best promotion they have ever got as far as airplay, papertime etc goes and they still cant pull a crowd.

Perth Glory is gonna be a very bandwagoney type of club it seems which is gonna be hard for Sage to stay committed too

?? Every other add on foxsports is for the A-league, from what i see they get more advertising than most of the sports on fox.

So the people that already watch and attend the A-League get it shoved down their throat. What about the 70% of people who don't have pay TV? How are they supposed to know anything about the A-League?

I'm a Melbourne Heart and A-League fan, but am not aware of these ads.

Why? Because I don't have fox, like many people in this country.

fair enough point taken on FTA exposure. But my original post referring to the fact that it doesn't get NONE across all media

Only 30% of Australian households have Fox, but I would submit that's the majority of sports fans.

Not a bad suggestion.... thinking through friends and relatives that are that way inclined (sports fans), I would put the number at about 1 in 2 of sports fans (people that would watch the sports channels on Foxtel on a regular basis) are current subscribers, so there would still be a big market missing out on the game without the FTA being involved.

Anyone heard any numbers on how the NBL is rating on One HD? This would give you some idea on the potentials for the A league on FTA.

On the first weekend the opening Friday night game got 56k and the Sunday game got 73k. ONE claimed the opening game was a 933% increase of viewers on last year's opening game!

I haven't seen anything since because most of ONE's ratings don't ever make any daily lists, but it was a clear increase on Foxtel viewership.

Currently more people in Australia watch a W-League match on a Saturday afternoon on the ABC than an A-League Foxtel match at the same time. I think that shows why FTA is needed...

It's seems pretty apparent that it'll happen. Whether it'll be at the end of the year, or the end of next year is the question.

Hopefully all parties can come to the sensible agreement and get it on there for next year.

It was a seven year deal with Fox and I think this is season six, so one more season after this of Fox exclusivity before any new broadcasters (ONE HD hopefully if it still exists then).

I'd be very surprised if that were true. Going by the figures above, that would mean that less than 5.5k watched the opening game last year. I reckon you'd get more people watching the channel 31 fish than that.

You'd almost think that the FFA could do a deal whereby the sell a package to ONE HD, whilst extending the contract of Foxtel.

Eg. 4 games on Foxtel, 1 on ONE HD and a highlights package everyweek.
