Is there anything that can be done to fix this? It is ruining what should be perfect conditions for football. Not only that we seem to play so poorly in these conditions. Countless times tonight we dropped marks or couldn't handle the ball cleanly off the ground.

I have heard of some chemical agents that can be sprayed onto the ground during the day that can reduce the effect of dew in the evening. I have also seen devices used so collect the water off the ground in cricket matches in South Africa.

If something can be done it need to be looked at, it might as well have been pouring down raining tonight.

Indeed.

I believe we should use a method to artificially attract clouds in the area immediately over the ground so that the inevitably clear night skies that Crows' games seem to attract do not eventuate and hence the dew is not so severe.

Nevertheless, as long as the Stuart version of Dew is not damaging the precious surface of Football Park I will remain at least mildly satisfied.

At least we won a close won in those conditions 2nite ... we were dew :)

You're kidding? Awesome conditions for football tonight. No wind whatsoever, and a standard dew surface I would have thought. We just played like crap and fumbled.

Toughen up, I say.

If you don't think the dew did not contribute to the poor standard of the game then you are delusional. What do you mean standard dew? I would hate to see a bad dew.

I am not complaining about the dew because we played badly in it, that is up to us to fix. But clearly had there been no dew tonight the game would have been a much better spectacle.

I asked in another thread if we train at night on Footy Park? Every time I see footage of training it is during the day.

Maybe we could get Anthony Ingerson down there for a few trainings to show the players the stop-then-grab marking technique he perfected. The only player I know who was completely unaffected by wet conditions.

I was thinking at the game that this must contribute to the AFL's programming of matches. That was a shocking game to watch and I'm sure Vlad would have been sitting there wishing the game was at the MCG or Telstra Dome. TV rules the game these days and I can't see any station thinking that standard of game would be a ratings winner.

you can apply a wetting agent which is meant to stop the moisture sitting on the leaf. It acts as a lubricant, the water slids down the leaf rather than sitting on it. Dont know if that will make it any less slippery as there is always going to be that moisture about somewhere.

Seriously, who cares? It's the nature of footy that they play in whatever the conditions are at the time. I doubt there is any way of removing the dew without using excessive chemicals or a sponge-roller type implement, which would involve a shitload of labour to cover the whole oval and likely flatten the grass at the same time.

Anyway, the friday night Essendon game in 06 was almost exactly the same conditions and we kicked 30 goals. Last season's night game against Hawthorn was another flogging by the Crows in wet conditions. I don't think you can solely blame the dew for a game with poor skills.

Typical conditions for a game at Football Park for this time of the year. Would've thought our coaching staff would have made sure we had at least 2 sessions this week at night given Craigs love of 'practising' match day conditions.

Really, are we getting a bit precious that we can't watch a game of football in other than pristine conditions these days?

How spoiled have we become! Complaining about dew! Thankgod there are no bog heaps anymore where the centre square is under 6 inches of mud.

Ive heard in interviews from a few players that night games at Footy Park might are like playing in wet weather...apparently its the worst oval for dew in the league.

Seems a huge portion of you "crow" supporters have forgotten that footy is a winter sport and that two teams were out there. I don't see the bombers whingeing and they didn't get the four points.

Must be a SA thing.

Lets hope the next game your boys play is pissing rain. I'm sure the footy team will respond well, it's just the supporters who don't want to get wet and cold.

Funny how the dew seems to affect certain players more than others...players who can't one-grab the footy really get found out, while players such as Porplyzia, McLeod and Jarman look even more silky smooth than usual

Can we also blame the dew for us not being able to lay effective tackles???

People seem to be missing the point. If it is something that can be fixed then I am not sure why you wouldn't try. If you don't think it is a problem then why bother putting a roof over a stadium? The umpires were throwing the ball up on Friday because it was so wet.

I am not saying to fix it because we have been particulary ordinary in the slippery conditions, that is our own fault and we have to deal with that. After all there is a thing called rain.

It seems to be that these days people seem to look for any sort of excuse not to go. So if the game can be improved as a spectacle, why not try?
