FTA-TV ABC Tv as a kid - memories.

Its funny, The Ferals must be too politcally incorrect for today's TV. Virtually every other kids show from the past gets a run bar this one. They must think there's "too much violence" or some other crap.

Showing the age here but...
:thumbsu: Kimba the White Lion, :thumbsu:, Kenny Everit Video Show(watching it now makes you cringe, as does) The Goodies. Bill and Ben(Bop op little weeed), Sesame Street(yes it was on back then) and Play School. Tho we couldn't wait for six o'clock on a Saturday night for Countdown.

Some of you make me feel my age today. I'm old enough to remember the very first episode of Dr Who.

Robin Hood with Richard Green - I think it was on ABC

Oi Adventure Island with SUE DONOVAN..if only we knew what was to come.

I have a memory of COUNTDOWN being on Sunday nights.

I recently acquired all the seasons of Degrassi. Quality viewing with some hard hitting story lines including Erica's abortion, Wheels' parents dying, Claude's suicide and Cathleens eating disorder.

The best part was the actors, using actual teenagers to play teenagers. Take note shitty American teen shows.

They just dont make these shows like they used. Look how rubbish Degrassi the Next Generation is.

All the way with Stephanie Kay!!!!

and Wheels wearing a Doggies footy jumper!!!

:D

Where did you get them from because I saw them online but only for region 1.

I downloaded Degrassi but it's very recent. Not as good but still very very good.

One of my all time favourite shows. :thumbsu:

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, most schoolkids of my era could be guaranteed an hour's worth of entertainment on the ABC between 6:00 and 7:00 thanks to the Goodies/Doctor Who double. These shows have of course already been mentioned, but Roger Ramjet and Monkey were also popular back then. Also Banana Man and Danger Mouse. At one stage, between 6:00 and 6:05, there was a show called Laff-A-Bits, which, if memory serves correctly, used black and white footage, old piano music and no dialogue.

Sorry, but cannot accept the posts that The Goodies and The Kenny Everett Video Cassette look cringeworthy today. Not sure whether these people are saying they don't enjoy these shows any more, which is their right of course, but if you feel there is a cringeworthy aspect to these shows, you really aren't a true fan. Good to have a small rant occasionally.

There were two other cartoons on the ABC from the 1980s, though I didn't watch them regularly. One was called Jamie and his Magic Torch. Can't recall what it was about. The other was about a boy named Simon, and the theme began: "Well you know my name is Simon, and the things I draw come true..."

Another animated show from the 1970s was QT Hush, which I believe has never been repeated on the ABC.

Spike Milligan's Q series also featured at 6:00 during 1983. I didn't always get his abstract way of writing, but laughed often enough here and there to stay tuned.

Glad the Ferals has gotten some mentions, that show is AWESOME! Used to love it when Rattus would suck up to Joe by going 'Joe...maaaaaaaatttttteeeeeeeeee!!!!'.

Square One Tv was awesome, loved Mathnet.
The various T-Bag series were fantastic, can't remember which one was the best.

But Fireman Sam was by far the best. This is for anyone who wants a fantastic song in their head...

Man, I miss old school ABC. Could watch it for hours after school.

Now, not only are this generation not getting the quality of shows, the shows that are still around have changed!

eg. Bananas in Pyjamas from this:

Awesome TV. Have downloaded Star Blazers recently and watched season 1, onto seasons 2 and 3 shortly. The internet is great for reliving some of the best parts of your childhood.

First memory was Monkey Magic at 5:30.....then turning off when Eastenders came on! Similarly waiting for "Let's Learn Japanese" to finish so I could get into Sesame Street (55 minutes), Thomas The Tank Engine and Play School (Arched window and 3 dolls having a tea party under the flower clock).

There was however one show that for some reason my sister got into but I couldn't. This appeared in the schedule around 1994 (remember watching this in Hervey Bay).....

Beachcombers! Loved that show.

Hey, random question.... anyone recall in the mid 80's ish (possibly not on the ABC, but on the Kaleidoscope kids show on SBS) an animation, maybe a redubbed Japanese or Euro one, involving two kids and a dolphin?
