I'd think Uwland and Hudson might also be considered strongly. Kalani White the one with most upside will probably just miss out but watch him grow next year as an even better player.
Seems like Uwland left his best performance for last of the U16 National Championships against the Swans academy. 29 disposals, 10 marks, 7 i50s and three goals from the wing is extremely impressive. Considering Zeke is already a part of our U18s program, I'd expect him, Addinsall and Murray to all have strong bottom age seasons next year and along with Leo Lombard they should form a very formidable midfield next year. This is what I could find from those named in the bests in the Swans academy game:

#4 Zeke Uwland | Wing | 176cm (Burleigh)

Uwland capped off a strong carnival with arguably his best performance, amassing 29 disposals, 10 marks, seven inside 50s, and three goals from the wing. The brother of Bodhi backed his speed on the outside, blazing a trail into attack and using the ball typically well. His range of passing was superb and that translated to clean conversion in front of goal, proving somewhat of a superboot from outside 50.

#8 Beau Addinsall (MVP) | Midfielder/Forward | 179cm (Broadbeach)

Earning MVP honours for his side and the competition as a whole, Addinsall was near-impossible to look past. He posted 29 disposals, seven marks, and eight tackles in another outstanding performance which highlighted his quality as a prospect for the future. Addinsall displayed a strong work rate to work into the expanses of the ground and accumulate possessions, looking dynamic with the ball and fittingly icing the game with a late goal.

#9 Jai Murray | Midfielder | 184cm | (Broadbeach)

Another highly rated prospect in the Suns’ 2007-born crop, Murray finished his campaign with 20 disposals and seven tackles. The usually classy midfielder had a few uncharacteristic fumbles but tended to dispose of the ball with high skill and efficiency, proving a key figure for his side throughout the carnival.

#21 Cooper Collins | Forward | 188cm | (Broadbeach)

Collins put in a huge shift during the first half, with claims on being arguably the best player afield in said period. The hard working forward finished with 15 disposals and seven marks, proving a difficult matchup at 188cm with his blend of size and running power. He emptied the tank and wasn’t the same strong lead-up target through four quarters, but had been on track for a day out.

#28 Max Hudson | Key Defender | 190cm | (Broadbeach)

Hudson was superb in the Suns’ back line, clunking a series of intercepts and looking a cool head under pressure. He ended up with 11 marks and eight rebound 50s from 17 disposals, with his aerial prowess proving the feature of his game. The tall defender moved fluently from contest to contest and was a constant thorn in Sydney’s side with his control of the airways.

Broady are really flexing their muscles in terms of churning out talented juniors. Uwland will end up playing for Broadbeach as well and they also have Lombard + Rogers. Turning into a very strong breeding ground for us. Can't find much about Kalani White but he also happens to play for Broadbeach.

Has anybody seen Addinsall and Murray live? I haven't yet, but will try watch some of their games post season.

Not live but I do recall watching a U18 academy game on stream earlier this year and Murray was very involved as a small forward. Kicked three goals from memory and didn't look out of place at all against players who were 2-3 years older than him. Having said that, it would appear Addinsall is the better of the two at the moment. Both were named in the U15 AA team last year.

Both McVeigh and AFL talent guru Kevin “Shifter” Sheehan believe 197-centimetre Walter is so promising he could do the unthinkable and usurp Vic Country and Tongala rising star Harley Reid to be this year’s No.1 pick.

I haven’t seen another young key forward put pressure on like Walter does. His want to tackle and compete is as good as I’ve seen,” McVeigh said.

“He will challenge for the No.1 pick. Like all players, he has stuff to work on, but he’s built for the AFL, and he plays next year, there’s no doubt about that. He’s a beauty.”

So we put… 100k into developing him in our academy for the next handful of years only for him to choose the Demons…

Whilst another poor GC kid doesn’t get the opportunity to be a part of our academy due to White holding that position.

Doesn’t seem fair to me
I understand your logic but the likelihood that a player was left out that would eventually become an AFL players is very low, 95% of the academy will never make it to an AFL list so if you missed the cut because of a player like White you were never going to make it IMO

We also want to foster good relationships so that if they go elsewhere and don’t like it ( Weller) we have a chance at getting them back, slim I know but a chance at least. Another positive is we want our academy teams as strong as possible, a high tide lifts all boats

That’s my 2c anyway

He's fantastic. Tough fast fantastic skills and footy brain. Ultimate team player and top kid. Definitely could be a first rounder.
How exciting! Three first rounders this year, potentially two next year with Lombard / Nancarrow and it sounds like Addinsall is another potential first rounder. Perhaps Murray and Uwland will give the first round a shake as well. It's just so exciting to see Gold Coast locals at the pointy end of the draft and I'm sure it will help us really establish a better community / family feel around the club. I don't remember exactly which poster it was but someone on this board commented on Jake Rogers being a Varsity College boy and that it made them proud to know a future Sun came from their suburb. That's the kind of community / family feel we want going into the future.

I hope he has does play, and goes well. I just think peoples expectations are getting a little overblown.
He's a consensus number 2 pick that some experts are saying is worthy of number 1 status. What do you think are reasonable expectations for a player of that ilk?

Depends on the position.
Key positions and rucks find it a lot harder early on to get games in a meaningful situation.
Cadman, Logan McDonald, Tim English, all did next to nothing in year one. Did not play that much.
Naughton was good but he also started as a defender.
It can be done, but much less likely.

Looking at him running around in the 3rd and 4th quarters last week he also looks like he needs some tank building as well.

How much Walter plays might depend on whether Casboult plays another season?

Because of the player type and profile I wouldn't expect more than 10-15 games next year and maybe a goal a game.
There is going to be a lot of defenders as big and strong as him in the AFL. It's going to take a few years before he is comfortable ag the level. Not many key forwards come in and play great off the bat.

Big game tomorrow. Allies v Vic Country with academy players Walter, Read, Rogers, Graham and Watson all lining up for the Allies. Last chance to see our academy players do their thing on the national stage and an Allies win would cap off an undefeated National Championships campaign for Allies which means they would claim their first ever Championship. AFL.com.au will post a stream at some point tomorrow.

He'll definitely play next year but it's more a question of whether he can have an impact at the AFL level as an 18 year old. It looks like Casboult will play on next year so that's obviously going to be a big factor. If Casboult continues to crash packs and play as the bear in the square next year then that could mean Walter will be able to play a relatively uncontested role in the forward pocket/flank against the 3rd best tall defender. That's probably Walter's best bet to have an impact.

Vic Country up 20-15 at quarter time. The first team to actually challenge the Allies this year. Let's see how they respond in the second quarter.
