AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
My favourite Read game so far. It felt like he was everywhere in the fourth quarter when the game was there to be won.
I've mentioned that I'm unsure about whether he'll be a ruck at AFL level. I still struggle to find any instances where he gets a clear hit out to advantage. But he's got a strong case of the Blicavses, as all his ruck highlights come from the work he does after the tap. In this game he played a decent amount of CHF and would become an extra midfielder around the ball after the center bounce, something that he's quite effective at.
In america they would call him a unicorn.
I like the Blicaves comparison as tall guy who can potentially play all over the ground but probably not best suited to being a starting ruck.
Probably should have said Bliclavs without a league leading tank.So he is Mac andrew without the off field trouble.
Runs the 2km under 6 minutes, not league leading but very, very good.Probably should have said Bliclavs without a league leading tank.
Would take Read over Andrew in a heartbeat.

Still think his best role is a intercept and distributor CHB
Luke Jackson liteI wanna see him in the midfield lmao
Without the offensive lid.Luke Jackson lite
He doesn't have Jackson's athleticism but he has more polished skills.Luke Jackson lite

Importantly, all but Nancarrow are Gold Coast juniors and that shows the game is growing rapidly at the grassroots level here. Had the Ashcrofts stayed on the Gold Coast, it would have been even more obvious that we're currently experiencing a gigantic explosion of first round draft talent from the GC.sWalter, Read, Rogers, Lombard, Nancarrow and Addinsall. Some absolute superstars coming through your academy among that group plus a few others who look promising. Great to see the GC academy thriving and producing quality QLD talent, so good for the game!

2022 - Will Ashcroft (#2)
2023 - Jed Walter (#2), Ethan Read (#5), Jake Rogers (#10)
2024 - Levi Ashcroft (#5), Leo Lombard (#8)
2025 - Beau Addinsall (First round)
That's an unbelievable amount of talent to come from the one regional city over a 4-5 year period. Also, keep an eye on Jai Murray for the 2025 draft class as well. Both he and Addinsall have been named U15 & U16 AAs in back-to-back years.
