Traded Adam Cerra traded to Carlton for pick #6 and F3

If he leaves (as widely reported), what will Freo get in return?

  • Two good 1st round picks

  • Top 10 pick and change

  • A 1st & a 2nd

  • Later 1st rounder

  • Two 2nd rounders

  • Early 2nd rounder

  • Other 2nd round pick

  • Less than a 2nd rounder

LMAO. Don't want SPS. Or Fisher. Or any of the other duds on Carlton's list. As mentioned many times, our starting position will ask for 2 first round picks.
I can, however, see us settling for your first and a second.

It doesn’t matter what you want. Freo have been reported to be interested in both because they are both talented players. Fisher slots right into your 22.

He is not Chris Judd, two firsts with one being 5/6 is ludicrous unless we get something heavy back.

Yeah, SPS is talented he can't get a game in your B22.

Honest question, while think the poster you were responding to was wrong, is Fisher in your best 22?

Agree, Fisher is probably in our 22 round 1 next year if he was traded

94 games in 5 seasons.
That's redundant though given the current state. If he doesnt get a game this weekend with the state of your injuries then I think it says a lot about how you rate the dude internally

Trade scenario

Fremantle Receive: 14(BL), 18(BL), 47(BL) and SPS
Brisbane Receive: Pick 6(Carl), Pick 25(Carl)
Carlton Receive: Cerra, Pick 28(Frem) and pick 51(BL)

Carlton
Gain- Cerra, 28, 51
Lose- 6, 25, SPS

Brisbane
Gain- 6, 25
Lose- 14, 18, 47, 51

Fremantle
Gain- 14, 18, 47, SPS
Lose- Cerra and 28

don’t mind this but think freo would rather give up a future pick then 28

Carlton
OUT 2021 + 2022 1st round picks
IN Cerra + Freo 2022 2nd round pick

Or

Richmond
OUT 2 x 2021 1st round picks
IN Cerra + Freo 2021 2nd round pick

I think Carlton would be better off hitting the draft and seeing if a new coach can make players out of Dow, SPS and O'Brien. But they will want instant midfield support for Walsh and will be hoping to hit the top 8 next year. Richmond seem like the best fit for Cerra in my opinion.

Absolutely. I personally think his only issue is continuity and a consistent role. It is unfair to group him with SPS, O’Brien and to a lesser extent Dow types who have clear deficiencies in their game. I’d really hate to lose Fish.
Yeah, I agree he's clearly above SPS and O'Brien. SPS is possibly worth negative value to you guys in all honesty. He's not even steaknives at this stage.

Fisher has value, I just havent seen enough of your games to know how much.

e: I mean he has negative value to you guys because you wont want his salary on your books if Cerra is signed. Cap will be toight

Continuity and consistency?

Sounds like when St Kilda fans tried to convince Freo fans that Blake Acres would be good with continuity and consistency.

Turns out he's just a spud.

Fremantle have shown interest for a reason. I’m not saying he’s worth anything major but you act as if he is a net negative to any deal. SPS will be a good pick up for Freo.

I believe he is a net negative to the club and would be better off delisted. We have a shocking history with bringing in under performing WA players from other clubs.

I would trade pick 5 (likely after this weekend) and SPS for Cerra and a third round pick. Think that's pretty fair so long as Freo have interest in SPS. I think Freo would value Cerra higher then a pick 5 alone, whilst Carlton would probably like a 2nd rounder for SPS, so the deal is a reasonable compromise.

I don't see Carlton splitting the pick unless Fremantle become stubborn and insist on a first and second round pick, in which case Carlton might offer a later first round pick, a second round pick. Freo ultimately would be less happy with that offer so don't see it happening.

I find it hard to believe a deal wouldn't be done. Carlton have plenty of currency and Freo won't try screw Carlton as Cerra could always enter the national draft, where Carlton could pick him at 5. No other club is going to use a top 5 draft pick on a player who doesn't want to be there.

I think everything you have said here is spot on except...

SPS's value, he is worth essentially nothing let alone a 2nd round pick

Fisher is good, he’s just not as good as he can be. He still doesn’t know if he’s a midfielder, flanker or pocket but he does all well enough that he’d be a great pick up for Freo. Most of his injuries have just been plain unlucky.

It wont matter what Carlton would like for SPS. They wont get it. His value would be at an all time low after this year. Same as Dow, O'Brien, Fisher, Setterfield or anyone else not getting regular games and underperforming. But as you say for Cerra, the old 'we'll just walk him through the draft' option is always there, so really Freo have to accept whatever Carlton offer.

Why do Carlton supporters think Pick 6 and 24 is overs? You are getting a 21 year old gun for the next 10-12 years!!

It is a lot easier to implement a good game plan and recruit good B graders/depth than it is to recruit a strong core. I think we have a good enough 8-10 in the right age bracket. We’ll see about the rest.
Where would cerra rate in your midfield ? Would he be in the starting 3?

I would have playing with 3 potential All-Australians is a very legitimate answer to the question of why Cerra might be interested in joining the Blues and is completely within the scope of this thread.

Weird.

[/QUOTE]

He would be our third best mid after Walsh and Cripps (provided he gets his body right). I think he would still spend some time on the wing , as our other mid options aside from Walsh can't play there.

I don't think 6 and 24 is ridiculous (I personally think draft picks are overated) but it is overs if you look historically. After coming off second best in the Saad trade, I think Austin would be concerned about being perceived as a pushover if he paid that in a straight swap.
