Saad with 3 thirds in Essendon's B&F in 3 years, on the money Carlton has offered should see pick 7 get the deal done.

$650k? That’s not pick 7 money. It’s Brandon Ellis money.

Of course pick 7 would get the deal done. You’d be an idiot not to take that if you were Essendon. You’d be an idiot to hand it over if you were Carlton.

I suspect there’ll be a more nuanced outcome than the “see pick 7, see pick 7 run, run pick 7 run” efforts coming from media.

Couldn’t be bothered.

The thing that I look forward to is watching Adam Saad run around in the mighty navy blue and white jumper next year. From the way Essendon people are rating him he will be an AA for the next five years and win three Brownlows!!!
Don’t be silly, the Brownlow is a midfielder’s award.

Carlton will give up pick 7 for Saad. It wont be a straight swap, if Essendon want that pick 7 they will have to throw something extra in to make it worthwhile for Carlton. Otherwise Carlton will just split 7. Either way Carlton lose 7, it's in Essendon's best interest to do enough to make sure they get that pick.

I am no expert but I value Saad somewhere around pick 10-15.

A deal will get done, all the media hype between now and then is just that...hype.

No doubt Carlton won't take pick 7 to the draft. It Will be split. Interestingly that both teams that are after free agents (Cats and Lions) have multiple picks in the teens. I think it will be one of those teams.

I reckon somewhere in the early to mid teens seems fair.

I hope that Essendon add something to Saad (not sure what) to get that pick 7 outright. I would much prefer pick 7 than say 17, we just need to make it worthwhile to Carlton so they don’t have to go through the process of splitting it.

Given Carlton should be on the rise I think that would be a fair trade. Saad for Carlton’s future 1st (probably around pick 10 -12)
27 year old Out of contract Half back flankers do NOT get traded for First round picks,
never have
Why would Carlton set a precedent that would haunt them in the future.
Pick 27 OR pick 45 OR a player surplus to our needs would be fair.

Any talk of a First round or better is fantasy.

Carlton has offered the same money and length as his incumbent club, it isn't the reason he is leaving. Pick 7 would absolutely get the deal done, but it would be fairly poor trading for the CFC to offer it for an OoC player who is reportedly willing to go through the drafts to get away from Essendon.

It would easily be the highest price ever paid for a comparable player in AFL history, let alone one who is OoC and has already walked out. In dozens of times posting it, I'm yet to hear a reasonable or logical response as to why it would be offered in any fashion.

I agree wholeheartedly with Buckenara's valuation that Saad is worth a late first / early second. He said if not that, IF (huge if) 7 is involved, a pick in the teens coming back would be required. Either the Dons or the Blues need to make something happen to get a fair enough trade done because neither team have the required currency right now. I think it will get done, but not before Dodoro spins his wheels for a few days.

He's 26. In his prime, a first round pick will definitely be involved.

Like what you did there add in pick 6 & 8-10 to devalue pick 7's worth...

Look back through history, quite a few gun's taken at pick 7. Would think it has been one of, if not the most prosperous pick of all...

Saad is a great player, but at the end of the day is a HBFer only, has no other strings to his bow and has no accolades for his position...
Standard HBFer's are not worth pick 7
We won’t get pick 7 though. Most likely it’ll be 9 (adelaide compo got crouch) and JUH bid.

HAHAHAHA - and dodoro is the one copping heat....

Dodoro will know all about heat very soon as he tries mange the player Exodus at EFC.
Joe Daniher, Orazio Fantasia & Adam Saad have walked, some won’t or just can’t except reality.

Nathan Lonie and Shaun Burgoyne were both traded for 1st rounders weren't they?
From memory didn't the Hawks get the Silk for a top 10 pick and wasn't he Saady's age then (26 or 27)?

The AA, premiership winning Shaun Burgoyne commanded 9 yes.

Silvagni making the point this morning that "it's Carltons responsibility to get the deal done".

This is exactly what was put on Essendon when we courted Shiel and we were forced to pay overs.

Carlton courted Saad, same rule applies, they need to get it done or player managers will start advising their clients not to nominate Carlton if they just continue to try and walk players to the PSD.

... they need to get it done or player managers will start advising their clients not to nominate Carlton ...

Read the same line last year from posters antsy about Jack Martin. Turns out it doesn't really work that way.

So now that we have put to death the idea that Saad is worth as much as Burgs, do we REALLY have to go through the difference between a contracted player (with four clubs bidding) and an uncontracted player associated with one club?

Geez. It's not difficult to understand this stuff. It's right there in the thread title highlighted in red.
