Your willig to pay 800+ for 5 years for back pocket then? Late first round is on the mark, question, would Saad be in your top 10 players?

Another EFC supporter plucking numbers out of thin air... One clubs trash is another clubs treasure. EFC plays him in the back pocket. EFC / Rutten de-valued Saad. Carlton is simply showing value in a player but offering him a position that suits him, in a club that will value him.

$800K??... We paying him $650K ... You just plucked that figure out of thin air.

Quoting the same guy twice doesn't miraculously make it 'another' EFC supporter.

This is true. The draftee might be a gun from game 1, though that's uncommon. More likely they'll take a season or two to establish themselves, giving you 5 - 6 years of genuine AFL standard output. Whereas Saad gives you a pretty close to guaranteed AFL standard output for the next 5 years.

Especially in this particular draft where most of the VIC players have no exposed form this year, plus a number of the top talent already being tied to clubs, meaning picks are even more of a lottery than usual.

It's one of those things where unless some other moves are made, Carlton doesn't really have a selection that exactly matches the value of the player they want.

We know the Bulldogs are happy to move on 12 as they've come out and said it, whereas everyone is just assuming Geelong will be open to moving their firsts on for 7.

Even if it takes a draftee 2-4 years to find consistency, they would still give you greater service (time in the game) over a 26-27 year old. Not concerned with finding a way to obtain a late 1st

We already know he's a gun HBF though. He just also happens to be a great small defender.

I'm not sure what part of Essendon offering him a 5 year contract suggests Rutten de-values him.

Cause the coach is playing him out of position. Its not about money. If it was about money Saad would be playing at North Melbourne.

Carlton supporters are pushing a pick value, I am garnering ideas for a value Essendon (imho) would be happy with.

Enough of the laughable 27 & 52 claims. We’d want quality picks, not quantity of picks

Enough of the laughable pick 7 with 30 back equals pick 19.

I'm sure Carlton would rather just split their pick 7 and give the Dons a pick higher than "pick 19 value", while retaining a pick higher than pick 30.

Out of position, as a small defender? When the guy is one of the best small defenders in the league?

I'm not sure you've thought this through.

The whole football world knows Saad isn't a small defender (back pocket). Saad is a running HBF'er (link player)

The three major reasons Saad is leaving EFC.
  1. He doesn't like the direction the club is heading
  2. He doesn't believe in the head coach
  3. EFC is an unstable environment. Saad is a quiet dude who gets the job done. Players and coaches arguing amongst themselves is not his style.

You're making this up.

He's a fantastic small defender. His value is in his ability to be able to negate a player and break lines.

If he's played on the best opposition small he'll stop them, but it then limits his ability to be that running player. If he's played on the 2nd or 3rd most dangerous small, he can play a more offensive role.

The argument is that Rutten wants Saad to play a more defensive role, whilst Carlton are pursuing him to play a more offensive role. Both roles involve him being a small defender.

So basically you're making shit up. Unsurprisingly.

Saad is a great footy player who is worth a 2nd round pick. Un-contracted and wanting out of EFC means we wont be paying 'overs'. Carlton will get the deal done in Carltons favour. Whatever it takes! And so we should. We don't owe EFC any favours.

I'm not making anything up... Saad is not a negating small defender and EFC isn't the type of environment he wants to play in. Otherwise he wouldn't be leaving.

He's actually one of the best negating small defenders in the game, he is also one of the best offensive small defenders in the game.

But of course, facts don't suit your narrative.

You guys this thread is reaching Bryce Gibbs levels. Ya all need to chill

Tell us, what do you want for Saad?

I've already answered this:

I'd say 7 is too high, 19 too low, 14/15 is about right.

If Geelong is willing to split picks with Carlton, then yes, one of their later firsts would be around the mark. Brisbane also has 2 x firsts and might be willing to do the same.

So really it depends whether Carlton can find someone to split 7 with that has 2 x late firsts (e.g. Brisbane & Geelong) or Essendon sends a pick with Saad in exchange for 7.

People are assuming Geelong will trade up for Bruhn, but there's no indication from Geelong that they will or won't be open to it.

Bulldogs have already said they'll trade pick 12, but (assuming Lore's spreadsheet is right) Carlton don't have enough late selections to match the points value of 12 without 7 being traded. Alternatively the Bulldogs might do a straight swap of Pick 12 for Carlton's 2021 1st.

Haha
Should check out your supporter base stating facts when even most media outlets have suggested otherwise.

“Pick 7 won’t be traded”
- Carlton Bigfooty poster

“Pick 7 is firmly in the picture”
- a number of higher regarded journalists

Which would the majority believe??

The “higher regarded journalists” saying he’s worth pick 7 alone are Timmy Watson and Slobbo; both paid up members of the Essendon cheer squad. I would take what they say with a grain of salt. I don't think you even believe he is worth that (from previous posts) so not sure they add anything to the argument.

I'll say it again...the only way pick 7 would go to Essendon is if there was something significant coming back Carlton's way. As Essendon don't have a second round pick this year I'd suggest it would be Essendon's 2021 2nd rounder.

This would add extra spice to the bitter Carlton v Essendon rivalry, with Carlton death-riding Essendon even more than we ordinarily do. Would make for compulsive viewing..
