We need to back a few kids in and team will be better off for it. We are still capable of winning a flag but we need to bring in Watson, Parto, Mutimer, Sheed, Duggan and Rioli but not all at once as we are still aiming for a flag.
Not likely to happen.
I just spent a bit of time going through every teams drafting history since 2011 (apart from GWS and GC), we have debuted the least number of players (equal with Adelaide) from those drafts and have had the least number of games played out of those draft picks. The final numbers are pretty damning on our drafting and youth development.

His the coach. Surely he would have final say.
As I posted once before, I asked the exact question (last year) of a former 250 game AFL player who is a current assistant coach at an AFL club and he said that the coach doesn't have that much control over who is drafted. Of course they talk to him about what type of players they want etc but it is the recruiters decision. Don't know if this is the same at the Eagles but assume it is. Whilst i understand the longer term logic of it, it does tie a coach's hands behind his back a bit, although I assume they are all on the same page in terms of strategy and what deficiencies they want to fix.

******* horrible

Two grand finalists from last year are both in the top half of the list
It really does show how poorly we've done the last few years. I started out expecting the teams who've been rubbish for the last few years to be right up there but then like you say, you get to Sydney and the Bulldogs. And it's not all high/academy picks for these teams either.
Some of the notable guys from Sydney who aren't high picks from the last few years:
Papley - Rookie Draft pick 14
Marsh - Rookie draft pick 32
Alir - National Draft Rd 3 pick 44
Hewett - National Draft Rd 2 pick 32
Zac Jones - National Draft Rd 1 pick 15
Jake Lloyd - Rookie Draft pick 11
Rampe - Rookie Draft pick 37
Cunningham - Rookie Draft pick 93

Also poor form for Duggan to fly over as the emergency, the guy needs to play either AFL or WAFL. He had his best game last week and he should of been playing to build confidence and fitness

I've not been here for one day and the whole board has turned into shit.

look at freo 6 got the axe this week and they won against a quality team, we lost to them in EF. Simmo get youth in!!!

We believe he is actually injured and this was a chance for him to get home to family.

For anyone interested, this is from the 2011 draft onward

This really scares me. We have virtually no young talent coming through.

Barrass is great, Duggan has stagnated badly, Sheed will be pretty good. Venables, pls be the saviour.

Yeh it's really bad, there's basically a 5 year gap where we've only drafted 1 or 2 decent players. Jury is obviously still out on some like Duggan, Cole & this years draftees but the cupboard is looking pretty bare. Hawthorn have mitigated their lack of development somewhat by recruiting Mitchell & O'meara who look to be decent players moving forward for them, which we have tried to do but failed. I honestly reckon we could be looking at another stint down the bottom of the ladder in 2 years.

Kick straight and we win by 6 goals. We did a St Kilda by wasting our opportunities. At least the main reason we lost (inaccurate goal kicking) is something we have control over and is rectifiable. Hardly panic stations.

After all, it's not like we lost to Freo...
Don't speak too soon - if we play like we did yesterday and Freo play like they did last night - well a win against them in the next derby will be up for grabs!

Who was/is the recruiting manager during that time? Hope he's no longer with the Club.

Watching the freo game you can see how beneficial having some youth in your side can be, calculated changes can help transform a team. I don't think Simpson has it in him to do anything like that sadly.

I think and hope you are wrong.

What Richmond showed us was we seriously need Rioli in our side when he's fit. That small elusive forward with smarts and skills close to goals.

I'm punting on Partington to win a game this season. In his 3rd year and the kid has leg speed, something we lack.

Duggan will also come in at some stage.

The hardest thing is working out who makes way. For mine its Jatta, Redden and Hutchings. They become the injury depth players.

Simo still has some learning to do though.
