Genuinely looking forward to Watson, Venables and Rioli (when fit) getting games.
Hypothetical time - adding Sheed too. Who do they replace?

Is it Redden, Hutchings, Hill & ?? Nelson? No he needs to stay.. Wellingham? Perhaps but he goes at it.. Sheppard? Has been way down 2017? Or Jetta - here for a paycheck only?

Apart from Sheed I don't think they'll get many games this year unless injures hit. Long term though you'd say Hutchings, Redden & Jetta are first in the firing line. Not sure about Hill, he's got that uncanny knack of kicking goals out of nowhere which is good to have in the side. Although I like Hutchings I think he's more of a depth player in a good side. Would definitely keep Nelson in, I'd move him into the midfield as well.

Sheppard, like Cripps and most of our other senior players, I worry is suddenly immune from selection because of a good 2015.

I don't think he actually adds a great deal other than his ability to punch above his weight against taller leading forwards. His disposal isn't great and is poor against small forwards when when the ball is in dispute.

One of the things we all wanted to see this year was for the status quo to be shaken up a little. But it feels as though 2/3 of the side is immune. Maybe that's not the case but it feels that way

I'm oddly confident that we'll beat both Sydney and Hawthorn.
If we had a decent break against Sydney. Our geriatrics will still be feeling the effects of today in 5 days time.

It's surely lack of depth rather than nepotism though. Who is screaming out to be picked from the WAFL?

I've always thought from the start of Simmos career at West Coast that it was a mistake for the club to agree to him having a young and a fairly inexperienced coaching group around him. We really should have brought in an experienced senior assistant as a mentor at the least. Never bought into this "growing together" BS.

But I don't think the blame should all go on Simmo, he inherited an incredibly average list. A list that was described as "something pretty special" by woosha when he handed over "the keys". Which I think goes to show how cooked he was as a coach back then.

Hurn is the worst captain. No on field leadership IMO.

I was hoping the recruitment of Mitchell would help us in this department but it hasn't shown as yet.

Simpson was fuming in his presser !!

Hope he gave them a rocket or two
I watched it but didn't really pick this up?

Probably the closest I thought was the "we scouted Martin but couldn't adhere to the plan" (paraphrasing)

He also said I must be honest I didn't ask them how they are feeling. Looked pretty pissed off to me

I honestly think we have been worked out by the better sides. Our ball movement gets broken down and we struggle to generate uncontested possession.

Our forward line gets clogged up and the lack of midfielders who can kick a goal on the run around 50 really limits our attacking options.

When this happens we seem to get very little from the coaches box. Just the same play over and over again which on our day comes off and we kick enough to win due to having the best ff in the league.

Too often, unfortunately, against the better sides we get found out. Partially it is cattle but surely Simpson and Co would have some better functioning back up plans by now?

This average list took Simmo to a G/F , teams have tried to build lists for years hoping to play for a premiership ..

Who gives a rats if simmo wasn't happy in his presser.!! Same crap dished when we lose, no one stands up. Time for a new coach next season!!

Couldn't agree more .

The team played with determination and heart back then. Now most of them look like they're going through the motions and they're certainly not playing for each other.

This is one of the main issues for me. Since the 2015 GF, 90% of this side has been going through the motions in most games (bar the GWS and Adelaide games last year). It was evident in last years preseason that they were very flat, and then most of the season it continued. They all looked way too comfortable, as if they just expected to get to the GF again and win just because they made it the previous year.
This pre-season they looked up and about and I thought we had a chance, but since the season has started we've been flat again, and only really win our first two because the opposition didn't kick straight. You could see in yesterdays game, guys just cruising around behind the opposition player like they don't really care if they win the ball or not and its been like that all season so far. There's none of the manic pressure on the oppo ball carrier we had in 2015.

The problem is that 90% of these guys know they have stuff all chance of being dropped, because despite Simpson saying he wouldn't play people on reputation when he first came here, he's done precisely that. If you don't drop under performers from the side, and reward second tier performers, you get stagnancy, which is what our team is. People will say thier hasn't been any but that's not true. Last year we had guys like Karps, Adamson, Nelson and others playing well at times but weren't rewarded. This year Watson has been killing it and could be upgraded for a few rounds before round 11 but Simpson keeps pouring cold water on the prospect, which only further cements the underperforming guys attitudes in the AFL side. Even if he doesn't do it straight away, he needs to make the AFL side think a youngster might be selected to keep them performing.
Darlings head is ****ed since the GF. He can't take a mark under pressure, and couldn't even kick a goal from 30 out straight in front yesterday when the pressure was on. He also was one of the culprits just jogging behind the opposition yesterday when they had it like he couldn't be ****ed.

The other problem is our kids have gone backwards coz our development team couldn't develop a cold. Most of our young kids that have cemented a spot in the AFL side have been those that have been selected early and stayed there. Everyone else like Duggan have gone backwards. To ignore the problem and say everything is rosy is not being a supporter, it's being an enabler. Things won't change for the better until Simpson is brave enough to make hard calls and drop underperformers.

Agree completely with everything you've said. As for the bolded do you think he will wake up and make the hard calls? I'm not so sure he will, he's shown so far that he's stubborn and stuck in his ways.
