Who was/is the recruiting manager during that time? Hope he's no longer with the Club.
Pretty sure it was and still is Rohan O'brien.
Just found this:

Apparently he rated Tom Lamb inside the top 20 in his draft class and was impressed with his work ethic. No wonder our drafting has gone so well.

Do you imply Don Dyke better suit the Eagles than Simpson?
You do have to ask the question though, albeit I do like Simmo and would love him to succeed as a Premiership coach one day (sooner rather than later preferably). As we seem to have gone backwards since Pyke left our coaching staff, it is not a silly question to ask!

Also from my understanding it was O'Brien who chose to prefer Daniel Venables over SPP in the Draft. Venables could still of course end up being the better player with time, but the mind does boggle!

This is what happens when you recruit a bunch of "good character" guys, especially when we focus on drafting midfielders who are either flankers or don't have it in them to play hard contested footy.

Time to question the "no wayne kerrs" drafting policy. 2007 was a decade ago. Probably the biggest wayne kerr on the field on Saturday tore us a new one. Our wayne kerr levels are dangerously low and it is showing.

Masten is the one who looks like one, however certainly doesn't play like one

I think that I read somewhere that W Rioli averaged 1.1 goals a game in the SANFL including a haul of 5 in one game which would indicate that he would have gone goalless in a few. Someone posted a recent photo of him on here which indicated he had put on a heap of weight since being injured.
I am therefore very surprised that a few on here consider him as the potential saviour of our year and the future of this club.
There are great expectations on the shoulders of an unproven, overweight player yet to make his debut. I would have much greater faith in Venables and Watson making it rather than Rioli.

The first red flag was the 2015 GF performance, the second was the GF rematch in 2016. Pathetic efforts in massive games and the same efforts have been too frequent since then. This team has no leadership, how hard would it be to motivate a team for a GF or to exact revenge the next year against the team that embarrassed you in a grand final. It's unbelievable

I do miss that 2006 team and their genuine passion and emotion. Cuzzy was a perfect example, on the field of course.

Settle down, this is a photo from 6 days ago.. hardly overweight. You hardly look at Cyril and go 'oh he looks shredded and in real good shape'

Is it a photo taken 6 days ago or a photo posted 6 days ago? The one I am talking about is recently from training. This one appears to be from when he was in the NT.

Cant confirm either way i suppose, I'll have to take a look at the latest photos. Poor effort on his behalf if he has put on a few

There's a photo of him on this forum somewhere. He is bending over but looks like he is at least 10kgs over the photo you have posted. Looks like he might have stopped off for a week at "Samp's Turtle Restaurant & Bar" on the way back from the NT. Other than this, his 1.1 goal average in the SANFL competition should not give anyone any confidence that he will make it in the AFL. I'm not saying that he won't make it but it is well known that he has had trouble keeping his weight down and now he has had a serious hamstring injury it will be a hard road to even get back to playing his first game at EP.
