It means whatever we pay over the soft cap for coaching we have to give to the AFL in $$$. So if we go $100,000 over the cap we have to give the AFL $100,000. IIRC.

The tax rate hasn't actually been set as no-one has done it. 100% was the original suggestion, but it might be down to 75%. Hawks were negotiating this, as they will go over the soft cap to be able to pay Clarko out.

It’s overall football department spending so goes beyond just coaching and includes fitness staff, recruitment etc.

Is that how it works ? So you can go over the salary cap as long as you pay the AFL ? Sounds like local council operations.

Pretty much, yeah. It might mean that when we top out on the spending cap, every dollar we spend actually costs us $1.75 or so.

If the clubs have some confidence that low/no crowds will be a thing of the past in 2022, I could see it happening. Our Optus deal is heavily structured on our ability to put bums on seats, so games that we couldn't have a crowd really hit the bottom dollar. Whilst we're a rich club, I don't think we've been rolling in it since 2020. We were just better set up than most.

And the $0.75 tax is probably handed indirectly to a povo club so we are relatively not much better off

It's been quoted we have over 50 million in the bank.
More than enough one would think.

Looked at our 2020 financials

$32mil in cash plus another $32mil in investments

But….

there was $20mil in unearned income which I assume is 2020 memberships paid that we’re being rolled over into 2021

So the $50mil is not far off albeit those figures are from 12 months ago

Figured that Harvey was off the table once we announced Knights and Schofield were coming across. No way we could afford 3 senior type assistant coaches especially 2 coming from Victoria

If we do add another coach it’ll likely be someone with a lower profile that would be appointed to the forwards. In that sense Hansen ticks the boxes and given the bulldogs are still playing would explain why no announcement has been made. It’s all guesswork though obviously

All this talk about Hansen becoming our forwards coach even though Graham was the backline coach when he left and Webster seems to be backed into the role for next year. Unless everyone's assuming that Daniel Pratt will come back to becoming our defensive coach and Webster moves to a more developmental role.

I would have thought Pratt will be concentrating on his Senior role in the WAFL and then acting in-between the players from the WAFL to the senior team. Doubt he has a line coach role on top of that.

Is the new AFLW coach just doing that role and no WAFL? Pratty did both this year, but perhaps that's not appropriate long term.

Yeah the new coach is doing jus the woman's team. I also assumed he didn't want to be in a hub situation so he was going to be the WAFL coach for next year?

Michael Prior doing AFLW this season due to Pratt's Mrs having a kid. Believe he's re-joining the assistant coaching ranks. Well, hopefully anyway. Did a great job in defence prior to moving to WAFL duties.
