This seems like a unique, and thus far unheard-of theory... I'm interested to hear more, if you'd be willing to expand?

Freo under Ross Lyon selected some pretty fair players during his last 3 years.Ross Lyon would be a good fit aligned to current selector strategy of playing senior players out of form and close to retirement.
Ross would take this to the level needed to prove the strategy as valid that blooding you guys with hunger and pace is wrong.
Amazing how none of these problems existed last week.
I think people have been happy with three of the previous four games because the effort and energy was there (even if the polish was lacking). There was also a clear indication that a more flowing style of footy was trying to be implemented, more corridor use and more overlapping run.Oh they were there ........ and have been there for over three years ....... just last week the bitching on the boards wasn't there.
Funny how thats sidelined last week, by a bunch of kids busting their arses to try and win a game and playing like each game could be their last.
In reality - most times the game stats were as they panned out last week, it would have been a loss.
We kicked well they kicked bad ........ end result is we won .... some time the luck falls your way.
Simpson is an unbelievably stubborn bastard and is stuck in his ways.
He even talked pre game of the pitfalls of what he was going to do this week by brining in too many underdone players at the same time, yet knowing the very pitfalls that he had articulated ........... he still did it ........... same result.
Now I am prepared to give him and the new coaching team, the full season to ply there wares, but I am not convinced ,thus far that the game plan is being tweeked enough..
With the whole f****** credits in the bank thing, it's going to be hard to justify why we would not drop Darling for the next game.
He is so out of touch and so lost at the minute that he looks like Gumby.
That said I bet Simpson picks him again.
The wrong messages have been sent to seniors players for three years now " pass the fitness test and you play regardless of form or match conditioning", conversely the messages to the Wests and X'ons of our list is ....thanks for you career best games but the old guys from the infirmary are coming back.
Amazing how our two most spirited efforts for the season, have come from the try hards / no names that have dug in and played with spirit and vigor.
Ability only gets you so far, but with out application and determination, the ability is lost and or rendered useless.
100%I think people have been happy with three of the previous four games because the effort and energy was there (even if the polish was lacking). There was also a clear indication that a more flowing style of footy was trying to be implemented, more corridor use and more overlapping run.
Yesterday with the old hands all rushed back into the lineup and we just didn't show up. You could see it before the goal onslaught even started we were running in quicksand. Worse, within 20 seconds Cripps gets a possession on our half forwardline and without looking just dobs it 30m backwards.
The other issue with the second stringers playing a good game, they then look accustomed to the speed and style required to play at the level, they get dropped for weeks then end up having to readjust either as a sub or out of position which makes them look below the level.. pick them, play them, leave them until they lose form.. not because someone with no form but a big name comes back.
I just want to start the rebuild already. Don't care who the coach is.
If Simpson won't pull the trigger on that at the end of the year if we miss the 8 again with our ageing list, then get a coach who
I think people think about coaches wrong (not you by the way).Interesting about Simpson's record as coach. 62% puts him just below Malthouse's record at 64%, although that will likely go down if we tank badly this season.
7 wins and 5 losses in finals however 5 of those finals win came in the two years we made Grand Finals; in 2015 (2 wins) and 2018 (three wins). Other than those two seasons we haven't made Preliminary Finals. In his eight seasons as coach it's interesting to note we've only made top 4 twice which again was the two years mentioned 2015 & 2018.
Obviously the Premiership in 2018 weighs heavily for him but other than that I think we've massively underachieved as a club under his tenure. Will he survive his contract tenure until 2024? personally I don't think he deserves it unless we make finals this year. We need a fresh start under a new coach, Simpson seems resistant to change and last year in particular his team selection was a detrement to the team (referring to Brander, Rotham & Allen).
Not as a coach but I think on the board at least, pretty sure he'll return to the club in an official capacity soon. Will be Woosha for a 3rd stint. Proven coach that has rebuilt a west coast list twice.
He would be awesome as the general manager of football. Not as a coach but I think on the board at least, pretty sure he'll return to the club in an official capacity soon.

An existing coach can rebuild, but Simpson can't. I say this on the basis of the complete inability to develop young players in the team, not only evolve but change game style, recruit players to suit a desired game style or weakness in the team (yes he's not in charge of coaching but if a senior coach says I need player X get player X, the senior coach should have some sway) and to identify weaknesses within the club off field and address them (my example here is fitness, outside of Gaff you name me one midfielder who can use their running ability in a damaging way and do this for 4 quarters.... crickets. The other example is recruiting- if he can’t see that O’Brien has a horrendous track record and you keep backing him in, that’s on you).Does anyone truly believe that an existing coach can do a total rebuild and have success again? It has nit happened much in the history of the game. Sheedy did it, maybe Parkin? Can’t name many others but may be overlooking some.
If the club is going the rebuild path which most of us believe we should then surely it must be with a new coach with new ideas, new messages.
Schofield is the right man in my opinion.
The week we lost inside 50's 60 to 40?
Amazing how none of these problems existed last week.
You’ve never heard that facts that Mitchell was instrumental in our premiership win or the fact that the players loved him, he was an amazing teacher. Have you been living in a cave mate? This seems like a unique, and thus far unheard-of theory... I'm interested to hear more, if you'd be willing to expand?
So why was this thread deader than my social calendar?
Because everyone’s bright and happy when we win, and looking for something to whinge and moan about when we lose.
You’ve never heard that facts that Mitchell was instrumental in our premiership win or the fact that the players loved him, he was an amazing teacher. Have you been living in a cave mate?
Perhaps you would like to fill me on the theory that Mitchell wasn’t instrumental in our premiership win?
Yep, i went through the list a few hours ago.Simpson referred to our side tonight as a ‘young group’.
Is that even true? As far as I know we were a lot more experienced than the players put out by Sydney tonight. Happy to be proven wrong, if I am.
I am deeply concerned about the state of our list going forward. Where is our young talent through the middle?
