Reading Geelong fans commenting this morning about Scott and how they didn't think he had another flag in him makes me think I wonder if the powers that be will just hang onto Simmo until the wheel turns.

More likely until the wheels fall off.

He is a proud and stubborn man, however if we have another *ing sh1t house season, like we have just been through, I think that he may well walk.

He needs to:

  • Instigate a pre season whereby the players start the home & away season at peak fitness.
  • Further tinker and introduce the new game plan as a matter of urgency.
  • Significantly reduce the massive blowouts in games.
  • Reduce the huge gap between our best and our worst.
  • Get the old players performing better.... that would be a massive kick start.
  • Ditch the credits policy.
  • Back the kids.
  • Ensure that the players play a high tempo pressure game.

Should he be able to do this then we have a better season whereby we finish around the 12- 16 mark.

If we only win two measly games again next year ...... then he needs to be show the door if he wont walk.

I dont think simmo will last 8 years tho
You'd think we'll know how he's tracking at the end of his next contract at least. I think personal reasons would be the dictating factor if he were to get another extension and not make it 8 years.

In reference to your first dot point. Have you seen Schoeys recent podcast on YouTube Monocle? Said the team is coming back way too late in his opinion and could risk fitness.

He didn't really have much to do with the first flag to be honest. Team was set up, coached itself pretty much. Took him 11 more years to get another one. Does show that stability and experience is a big factor in success.

I haven’t seen the podcast you’re referring to but the return to train date is set by the AFL in conjunction with the AFLPA and individual clubs have no say or ability to change that

As yet I’ve not seen when this years return is. Last year it was November 22 for 1-4 years, then 2 weeks later for the rest of the playing group. Senior players can, and sometimes do, return with the younger group

Simpson won our last premiership and he will win our next courtesy of our draft hall in 2023 and probably 2024 including Harley Reid and an entire new midfield. Keeping him, the fitness team, recruiters and Dr Nick Riviera for 1-2 years will be the best thing for our rebuild and happy times in the future.

You give anyone time and you are a chance and getting a result. Stuffed it up, have another go mate, stuffed it up, have another go mate, stuffed it up, have another go mate. You are going to get it right eventually.

8.30 min mark. Thought his take was interesting.

Post-bye I feel it was clear that Simmo hasn't lost the players.

The players just aren't very good.

The players didn't play good, it's not that they are not good.
Gov, JK, JD, Redden, Duggan, Hurn, Barrass, Ryan, Rioli, Shuey, NN, cole, Sheed, Cripps, Kelly, Gaff etc are all on the list still. Now granted we had some injuries but many didn't even turn up in shape for the year. Granted our back up players are very ordinary but we are talking a recent premiership side listed here.
Any club that has that talent available should not be finishing bottom 2 no matter what injuries you have. There was something else seriously wrong within this group this year. You say that the players were with the coach and thats cool, but they did not put in like they were committed.

Well the problem is the talent wasn't available for huge chunks of the season because of injuries (or other reasons like bereavement or no fitness base because ovaries).

We won 1 game after the bye and lost our last eight including the game Kennedy kicked 8 in front of a home crowd. Its a streak as bad as any in our history. He pretty much had our entire squad in career worst form.

No was no where near a fit and full squad

Because Adam Simpson injured them all and gave them all covid and told Jack not to get the jabby jab.

I think he may have been up in the Tiwi Islands too with suspicious timing.

Not all of them got Covid and not all of them were injured. But a great majority of them were not fit and in the shape required. Maybe their mums spent the off season with them and made them to many cakes? I don't know why but the reality is that the squad was not prepared for the season ahead.
