I haven’t seen the podcast you’re referring to but the return to train date is set by the AFL in conjunction with the AFLPA and individual clubs have no say or ability to change that

As yet I’ve not seen when this years return is. Last year it was November 22 for 1-4 years, then 2 weeks later for the rest of the playing group. Senior players can, and sometimes do, return with the younger group

First to fourth-year players return to pre-season training: Monday, November 21

Five-plus year players return to pre-season training: Monday, December 5

Same return dates this year as last year. From memory players used to come back a bit earlier when Schoey was playing so maybe he's comparing to what he experienced as a player?

My biggest concern for the year has nothing to do with the fixture.
It’s the way we move the ball, the constant slow, sideways, and backwards ball movement was implemented by Simmo and now has to be reversed, I’m not convinced he’s the man for the job.
I ****ing hate watching it! It’s not football, may as well be watching soccer, have a go FFS!

Did you not think that was addressed by the end of the year with Jones and Yeo playing in defence and players given a clear directive to move the ball on quickly?

Followed up by the recruitment of a quick running defender in Hunt and prioritizing speed in the draft?

We’ll probably just ignore all that though and play the same style we played in 2020.

Well there wasn’t much point putting Jones or Yeo up forward as the ball hardly ever got down there.
Yeo’s form was so poor in the middle he had to be played off half back.
You talk as if a great new style has already been implemented, it hasn’t. We were disgraceful.
I’ll be happy to watch 2023 play out, before giving Adam Simpson a pat on the back.

There’s a 6-6-6 rule so you have to play players in the forward line. We played Yeo and Jones back to generate run.

Yeo never played in the middle in 2022, so I don’t know where that poor form comes from.

It’s alright to be critical but if the things you’re criticising could have at least some passing resemblance to what actually transpired, that’d be great.

Happily. Worst season in club history, by some margin.

Now, can you at least acknowledge there was a change in the game plan over the course of that disgraceful season? Or are you going to continue to insist that it was just Jones being played in the backline to get a kick/Yeo got booted out of the midfield because of form/the camera angle only made it look different/insert other rubbish reason why what obviously happened apparently didn’t happen?

Wow a flanker that can play forward and back, ground breaking stuff that, never been done before. FFS what a pathetic point to harp back too.
Yeo playing HB another groundbreaking point, while we are getting smashed in the midfield, Ripper!
You’re on fire!

Probably a good thing we've recruited 7 midfielders since the mid-season draft last year then, no?

So you didn’t see a gameplan change.

Did you actually watch any footy in the second half of the year? Or did you decide we’re 1-10 so it wasn’t worth it? No judgment if that’s what you did. Just don’t come on here, argue with those of us that actually watched out the season and tell us we didn’t see what we saw.

It's not coincidental that it aligned with greater player availability also. It was (or would have been) very hard to implement a new gameplan with mass changes every week.

Silver lining is that we did get some practice around a new gameplan in the back half of 2022. Did it all work perfectly, no, but we were obviously training and learning it.

A full preseason, with fit and healthy players, should see further development of the new game style (and hopefully some more competitive results). It's also beneficial that this is happening while we are transitioning our list to a younger group (14 players added in the past 2 years when mid-season and cat b rookies are included).

Just have to love a "supposed supporter " sinking in the boots BEFORE a ball has been kicked in 2023. Ffs can we just see how the year unfurls before we sharpen the knives, instead of stirring up the pot for the sake of seeking controversy. 🙄

Yeo was an all Australian half back. One major reason he was moved back besides that was because of his injuries.

Has there any been more of a hyped decorated prospect then Jarrad Schofield?

He won a three peat in WAFL coach. Three peat as WAFL player. One flag as AFL Player. Port Prelim coach 2x

I'm all in for simmo but Jarrod Schofield record really makes me salivate. Port will be circling hard like sharks.

Everywhere he goes and everywhere he touches he seems to bring home awards.

I think Josh Carr is the heir apparent to Hinkley if he doesn’t survive 2023

Here’s a quote from the worst on training, where they have Yeo training with the mids and Jones training with the forwards.

“Competing in a drill that split midfielders, forwards and defenders into three groups, Yeo took his place in the West Coast engine room.
Jamaine Jones, who rocketed into the top 10 of the club’s best-and-fairest this year in a rebounding defender role, mingled with the forwards, while Melbourne speedster Jayden Hunt joined the backs.
WC were trying to stop the bleeding, not a new game style.”

We were woeful, Simmo is bog average in my opinion.
